Anthony Collova
As usual, Second Skin is doing its best to bring new and exciting products to the market. This one is certainly no exception. Over the years we have a had a lot of street rod and race car customer come to us looking for a product that could withstand the high temperatures on the engine side of the firewall. Some cars reach levels of 1000 degrees f. and for this application, we had no product to offer them. Now we are about 8 weeks out from releasing our newest thermal insulation mat. This new material is a multi layer composite that can withstand temperatures in excess of 1000 degrees when as little as 2 inches of air space is provided between the heat source and the product. At ¼ inch thick and weighing in at .25 lbs per sq foot this is going to be our best thermal insulation material yet. The foil is about 12 mils thick with a dimpled texture to increase surface area. The Organic fibers are capable of withstanding temperatures over 1000 degrees, and the pressure sensitive adhesive is an acrylic hybrid that will grip on to any painted or primed metal surface, as well as plastic. When subjected to a heat source of 1200 degrees the opposite side of the panel will get reduced to around 350 f. When subjected to a heat source in the 300 degree range, the opposite side of the panel will get reduced to around 85 f. or so. Not only can it be used on the engine side of the firewall, but it can also be used under the car, above the exhaust or transmission to block external heat as well. Now, all we have to do is come up with a name for it. That is where you come in. We are offering a $250 gift code to the first person that suggests the name that we decided to use. We are posting this offer on several different forums and will be selecting a winner in the next month or so. We have about 8 weeks before the product is ready to ship so we can take our time and wait for the right name to show up. Thanks for your help!
