need to borrow a oscope to set amp gains

Recommended Posts

no im talking a good one that will do 40 hz accuratley most oscopes that are cheap are very inaccurate

A 40hz wave at maybe 80vac isn't going to challenge even the cheapest handheld o-scope... when you're just using it to adjust the gains all you need is a somewhat accurate visual representation of the output, which a cheap scope is totally capable of. In O-Scope terms, even for a cheap crappy one, 40hz is INCREDIBLY slow and even 1v p-p is an ENORMOUS signal. It's not like we're trying to measure the output of a scintillator here...

EDIT: Let's take the $160 Velleman HPS10SE - 0.1mV sensitivity and goes down to 200ns/div. Admittedly these are pretty poor specs but considering 1 cycle at 50hz is a whole 0.02 seconds... that's 20,000,000ns by the way... so in a 1 div x 1 div square you could be looking at... hmm.... 1 100,000th of a single 100vac @ 50hz cycle? When tuning you might have 2 entire cycles on screen so, considering it can easily display something 1000 times smaller and faster than 50hz @ 100vac, I wouldn't be too worried ;)
