SQMonte Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 I tried doing so on my recently finished build and i'm not too terribly thrilled with it. I love being able to have so much control over the sound, but that's also the thing that's the most frustrating because there's so much fine tuning that I have available to me that without having a good understanding of slope, octave, etc., it makes dialing it in a very frustrating and humbling task. I've tried to be patient and give it time, adjusting it everyday but I just can't seem to dial it in just right and i'm running out of patience. I think i'm going to run my components using their supplied xover and use the remaining 2 channels on my amp to run my 6x9's in my rear deck cause running my CDT's up front as my only mids/highs just isn't working out. I need that immediate gratification, this long, drawn out tuning process just isn't for me. Colin - STAPUFT Posted September 3, 2009 Report Posted September 3, 2009 It is all in how you like your system I guess. I love having stuff to tune, so I like it. My head unit has a crossover network, and I am running a 3 way active crossover network (for the bass, mids, & highs- sub-bass is totally separate) off of that. Then some of the tweeters have additional passive crossovers for even more low frequency protection. Yeah, it can be a chore to get it the way you want it to sound... If you aren't careful, what with the different cut off frequencies and Q levels and db roll off of your x-overs and so on, you can easily make a peaky or Thin sounding system. From what I have played with- the more precise you make the crossover network, the more channels and separate speakers you need to cover all frequencies at the same level with no excessive overlap or gap. Then you have to figure out where to put them and on and on. But, like I said- I enjoy that. Keeps me from getting bored with my stereo. 12 - 12"s in the STAY PUFT 1989 Chevy Astro Build & Comment Log Un-Interrupted Build LogYouTube Channel Chevy Trailblazer 5.1 Dolby Digital DTS Install You have a beard of a mysterious sea captain.
