brsteinbach
I want to put in a speaker amp and I only have enough wire to go about 20 inches away from the battery. Would it not protect it if it shorts for any reason. If you don't get it this is what I mean. Batt-----------------fuse-----------------------------------...amp ...............................................................20" ^...fuse block ^........other wire to amp^ Pretty much whats the max length from batt to fuse block? Thanks Guy's. Oh and sorry for the noob question. brsteinbach
I only have a sub amp and that all installed fine. but I have a speaker amp sitting mounted on my amp rack but isn't hooked up. I heard when you put in a fuse block your only suposed to cut the wire about 12" max when running power wire. In my case I only have enough wire to get about 20 - 25 inches away from my battery so then its about ten more inches away then recommended length. I can't explain it very well sorry. FreelandKustomz
the distance is irrelevant, all your doing is fusing it right after the battery so if the wires get pinched and grounded between the fuse and amp, it will blow. you can put your fuse right before your amp in the back. But keep in mind, the distance from the battery to the fuse, if shorted, will not blow the fuse and could start a fire
sayhuh?
I'm confused as well about what you're asking. If 12" is recommended, then can't you just cut your wire to 12"? edit: the distance is irrelevant, all your doing is fusing it right after the battery so if the wires get pinched and grounded between the fuse and amp, it will blow. you can put your fuse right before your amp in the back. BulletInjection
I think 12" is the recommended maximum but I don't know of any harm it would cause being 20" as long as you won't set anything on fire? jizazz12
20'' is fine usually most recommend 12" to 18" from starter batt it shouldn't be a problem. keepinitloud
you dont need to add another fuse just a distribution block to tie in the amp to the power wire from the battery Id also suggest upgrading your power wire to a min 4guage and the fuse at the battery and down the road you might wan't to consider upgrading the battery up front and adding another in back with the amps and if you have'nt done the big 3 good time to do it Quote 06 chrysler 300C Hemi one mmatts dreadnaut 15 powered by a planet audio vx 2200d fosgate p200 running planet audio 8" midbass drivers and super compression tweeters stock battery and a stinger spv44 Irragi 300 amp alternator big 3 1/0 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/55075-system-in-my-300c/page__view__findpost__p__763656__fromsearch__1
1030tooled
The "wire" link between the battery and the fuse is the dangerous section. If this link should get crimped or ground out somehow, ...say good by to something! You learn the hard way. Keep that fuse as close as posible and keep the wire free from getting crimped. Also keep it fasten down somehow. Quote 93' Ford Aerostar Alpine head unit 4-5.25 MB Quarts 20-10" pyramids super Pro 1 Lanzar amp
