so generally speaking... what would make a woofer bottom out at high volumes? an enclosure that is too large or an enclosure that is too small?

and just to get it out of the way... say that the woofer is being underpowered by atleast 25wrms and no clipping.... and is in a sealed enclosure...

well generally a woofer would bottom out if it has too much power thrown to it, too big of an enclosure, and playing under box tuning (doesnt apply to you in this case)

how big of a sealed box are you using?

well in my case it is my enclosure for 4 re audio rex8's.... the enclosure is somewhere between 1.2-1.5 cubes.... im not really sure since the bottom of the box is a mold of the floor of my truck....the specs on the woofers require .3 to .35cuft per woofer..... the woofers are rated for 175rms each and im giving them around 150ish after impedance rise each.... and they like to bottom out at 30-40hz..... ive put a little over a pound of polyfill in the box to help... and it has to a point....

try putting something in the box like a block of wood or something ot take up some airspace (about.5cubes) and see if it still does it. this may help if your box is too big. if it doesnt you may have too much power

nope you dont bottom out from being in a small area. bottoming out happens when the sub has too much excursion caused by either too much power or not enough pressure inside of the box(caused by it being too small)

Im going through the same thing. my box is too big & my surrounds are buckling when they hit real hard on the low notes. So a smaller box is in the works. Poly fill killed the sound of my box completely. & it sounds like you have way too much in there. 1 pound?

Current System:

Pioneer 6900 HU

Front Stage: (for now)

Soundstream tarantula 5.25 in the doors

Soundstream tarantula 4x6 in the dash

Kenwood 400.4 for mids & highs

Bass:

4 Soundstream RW-12's

2 Power Acoustik Stax 4000/1D's

single chamber box, 2.65 cubes.

Currently under the knife being bagged
