You could easily seal it off. You don't NEED to fiberglass or anything. Just go to home depot, or lowes and get some Air Condition sealing. Its some black thick foam.. Might not look pretty but since when was SPL about being pretty?

its called mastic. btw, great stuff is more commonly used when sealing off a trunk.
