Pros and Cons... Passive Radiators?

Recommended Posts

i loved that setup fritos!

what a great use for a otherwise useless speaker less a recone

The axis are suppose to be easier to recone, by just replacing the hole top assembly. so thats what i did.. lot more expensive too. haha

ive gone green with subs and recycle them :-)

edit. for the spl portion. ive got a termlab now. Ill see if i can meter the box tomorrow. i wonder if those 4 E8s will like about 1500 watts

well for one if you build a flat wall in a suv, and had 2 18's how the hell would you fit 4 18" passive radiators on the baffle?

Thats when youd need 2 18 radiators with twice the xmax of the subs.

or would having a radiator with a stiff suspension help anything? would it affect tuning?

you add weight to the passive radiators to change their tuning.

and im not sure on the Xmax question, i would think thats possible.

I know about adding mass to the cone to change tuning,

but since a stiffer suspension is harder to move, could that act like added weight?

it that setup i had with the 15 and the 4 8's the 15 has around double the xmax of the 8's and close to the same cone area, so double xmax worked for me

So, for spl.

I metered the setup today, i just threw it in my back seat firing forward. i adjusted the gain on my 2 1500s strapped to put out 800 at 4 ohms

box is tuned to 30ish. peaked at 58hz

sealed up in the kickpanel it did a 134.1

driver door open in the kickpanel did a 135.6

then tried to give 3000rms to the E8s. only gained a little over a db with the door open

did a 136.8
