Dan208
Something that I was thinking about earlier today. Say you've got the choice of running either two lower end subs vs one higher end sub (from different companies). All subs in question are the same size and run on the same amp. The two subs would be getting 300 watts each, the single sub would be getting 600 watts. Enclosure size would be optimal for each sub. In this situation does cone area beat out power? Beanz
id think so yes.since more cone area would be more louder assuming that the box are optimal for both subs either dual and the single ones. That's why they don't deliver. Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait. You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do. 1992Chevy K1500
If the 2 subs are seeing 600 watts for the pair, they will be louder than the single sub with 600 watts. My comp setup (Not bad for what it is): HP Compaq Presario V6120US laptop with: 15.4" widescreen AMD Turion 64 X2 1.6GHz processor 2x1GB stick DDR2 SDRAM (667 Mhz) Seagate Momentus 500GB SATA HDD 128MB shared video memory Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit 12 cell Lithium Ion battery (actual battery usage time: 6 hours) What it does: On a USB 2.0 Wireless card
Dan208
I figured as much but wanted to get some feedback. IH8PunkRok
i explained this in another topic but basically it is physics. loud=pressure=air movement since two cones have more potential to move more air they are normally louder but say this one sub can move twice as far as the two subs. in theory (if the cone area of each sub individually is the same) the they should be the same volume of air displaced. generally speaking though the 2 subs off 600 will move (ex) 10mm whereas the one sub off 600 will do 15-16mm so the two subs can move the cone area times the vertical displacement of air same for the single sub random numbers for visualization cone area of single sub is 6 so for the 2 subs the equation is 6*2*10=120 single sub 6*16=96 see how it moves a lot less air. there is the reason why it is quieter more often than not *note* these arent the real formulas just a basic idea of how things work. -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build
Derrick824
My single NightShade 15" was 1.2db louder than my two cvr 15"s off the same power.
IH8PunkRok
My single NightShade 15" was 1.2db louder than my two cvr 15"s off the same power. that happens a lot. my single 3512 is louder than my cvr 15's off same power but that was mostly failure of box design on my part. but when you look at those subs vs the cvr's there is a shit ton more potential of moving air correct? im not saying it doesnt happen because it does. but the normal cheaper way to do it is more low power subs like for example i boght the cvr's because i didnt have money so i spent 280 on those. pretty loud then i went and spent 4 somethin on this one sub and its just a bit louder. a lot of variables to consider -Matt2005 Dodge Magnum RTJVC KD-AVX1 2 PPI S580.2 Obsidian Audio ST1 Horn Tweeters PRV 8MB450s Audio Legion 3500.1D 2 RE MT 18s 360 ah LiFePO4 BatterySHCA 2/0 155.2 @ 29 hzKicker CVR 15's buildDD 3512e buildMini T-Line Build(6) 8s BuildNightshade 15s Wall BuildMagnum AB XFL 12s BuildNewest Magnum Build
mr.p
with more cone could also mean more motor force as less power compression as you are spreading the power across more coils DCAUDIO BALLS DEEP
Dan208
Just for the record, it's 2 10" Clarions vs a single 10" DC Level 3. fritosaregood
ive been thinking of somethin on the lines of this. its my take on wats better for and spl setup over a groundpounder. tell me if it sounds right for spl you just play one tone at the box tuning so there is very little excursion for a groundpounder you want to move tons of air so spl would be more geared toward having tons of cone area and a groundpunder would be ok with less area but more xmax per sub (but the same could be done by adding cone area). ^^does that sound about right? kind of on the same topic seller feedback: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=61719 http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...showtopic=68281 build log: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/index.php?showtopic=44800 Gf's build: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/54346-kickergirls-camaro-new-box-pg-5/#entry753970
