Gotloud555
Not sure how i could mess it up cauise its just alt to batt 1 wire but keep the posts comming! want more opinions. IF you care about about car then fuse it otherwise if it set on fire or blown then no one gonna save you that easily from a burning vehicle. I know fuse have resistance but it all about safety. sebasstian
is it alright to go with a fuse thats too big? cause i have a 150 amp alt so i would be fine with say a 200 amp fuse right? But what would cause it to catch on fire Quote 12 RE audio X series 12's 4 gauge wiring to back batt (soon to be 0 gauge) 0 gauge from batt to amp kinetik 1800 in back clarion cx-200 HU SPL 3000 wired at 2 ohms 8 Re 6.5 full range speakers Re Xt 800.4 4 channel amplifier Autopager car alarm
01 S-10
dont fuse it! the stock power wire doesn't have a fuse for this reason. ive heard that it can completely demolish your alt when the fuse pops because it has nothing to charge and it freaks out but correct me if im wrong Alot of vehicles have fusable links, same idea as a fuse. I cant understand why people would say not to fuse it, a fuse only costs a couple of dollars and can prevent a big problem down the road. Quote TDH FTW !!! TechSys
It's up to the person that is owns the vehicle or is installing the big 3 upgrade. A lot of people do not fuse and quite a few do fuse. It is also a safety feature cause with all the vibrations in a vehicle, the wiring can possibly get worn down and cause a problem. A little bit of safety can casue you to save a lot of money (vehicle and equipment replacement). I don't fuse and never have. But, just because I haven't ran into any problem doesn't mean the next person will have the same type of luck. And fuse to the wire's ampacity, at least that is what I've been told. You can good wire ampacity and find out what size fuse you'll need. kl0wn
The only reason people fuse this wire is for safety reasons, lets say you have it fused...something goes horribly wrong..the fuse fries and nothing else happens...let's say something horribly goes wrong and you don't have it fused...you risk having a fire because the wire is completely screwed but still trying to push power through it... That does not happen everyday to people that don't fuse, it probably rarely ever happens...thust the reason some people don't fuse. But if you want to be safe about it, JUST incase something bad does happen and you don't want a fire catching, put a fuse on the wire. If you're not worried about it, don't fuse it, it's all up to you. If you want to know what kind of size fuse to run, there is a topic stickied called "Wire/Fuse Guide". With my 1/0 power wire for the big 3 upgrade, I fused it with a 300Amp fuse Quote 06 Mini Cooper S Sundown, SoundQubed Cadence, XS Power 151s Sealed 155s Outlaw Windshield @ 37hz
