bgaccord
i had a box that was 3.8 cube tuned @ 35hertz for my AQ HDC giving it 2000watts and i made a smaller box thats 3.3 cubes with 2 4" flare ports and it probably 2 to 3db's louder,i just want to know why did it got louder with smaller box and aero ports? HHR Ed
aeroports arent necessarily louder, the change in box size most likely is what was responsible. If to your ear, come back when you get it on a meter. What freq did the old box peak at?? What freq did the new box peak at?? What is the new box tuning freq?? How much port area did you have in the first box?? What vehicle?? Subs and ports facing same direction in both setups? The only way to say flared is louder vs the slot port is to have the same interal volume, the same tuning freq, same sub and port position, the slot port had to be sized correctly, and you need a meter to verify the results. Adding other variables makes it hard to judge the actual results. Current system: 1997 Blazer - (4) Customer Fi NEO subs with (8) American Bass Elite 2800.1s Previous systems: 2000 Suburban - (4) BTL 15's and (4) IA 40.1's = 157.7 dB at 37 Hz. 1992 Astro Van - (6) BTL 15's and (6) IA 40.1's = 159.7 dB at 43 Hz.
