And just like I said, if the cones end up working, then they will have done something that no other company could do. Granted I still don't think the flat cones will be benficial in any way, so all the work is for nothing.

no other company? hmmm....could be wrong.

first off ive seen ateams sub in action last show, it is not a prototype it is a fully functioning woofer.

second, i think you are wrong with the cone/former joint a properly machined former adapter (much like TC has used in the past) will prove to be just as strong of a joint as a concave cone joint. if the adapter is machined to slide inside of the former, you get glue joints on the inside of the adapter, outside, inside and outside of the former. also the piece will increase the surface area to which the former is pressing against the flat cone.

but what would i know i havent set 3 organization nationwide records?

i guess that is a prerequisite to knowing it all nowadays.

It's still in the prototype phase since it's not something that is available nor really known to the general public. It appears that they are the first to have an test the sub. That seems like a prototype to me?

And once again, please show me pics of the cone to former joint so everyone can assess the design. If they have developed a stronger method then that's great. Still doesn't take away from the fact that you have less cone area and a weaker overall structure.

But im not.

Apparently you neglect to fully read my posts.

I stated several times that PPI made a flat cone. But they have NOT made a flat cone that can take the abuse that subs face today. Alma gates my have used flat cones in her old bronco, but she had multitudes of them which in the end didn't receive as much abuse as most subs do today, even in daily driver applications.

Plus I'd like to see a back shot of the PPI sub to see if it's actually a flat cone, or just a flat dustcap that is layered over a normal cone.

The only company to try a flat cone since the PPI subs was eD, and we should all remember that disaster. Even an aluminum backing on the cone couldn't help them from falling apart. Though eD isn't a company I would trust with such a design anyways.

I know I'm really coming off as a douche in this thread, which wasn't my intention. Rusty is a good guy but I just really, REALLY don't care for this idea. That shouldn't deter people from buying his stuff because we all know it works. Not every sub is suited for every environment. It's just my personal experiences that form my opinions.

ever have the thought that the cone former joint has something special to DC?

maybe they are keeping it a secret untill people start getting subs with flat cones on their doorstep.

wouldnt want T3 to figure out how its done now would we? :)

Also a good point. I keep repeating myself over and over. If DC has found a way to keep the flat cones together, then that's great. But it still doesn't take away from the fact that you have less overall cone area and an inherintely weaker structure.

Why put all the time and effort into developing a flat cone when there's absolutely no benefit?

well if you are correct, a flat cone will have less mass given the same material as a normal cone, as there is less "cone area" so in theory you could use the savings in cone weight to build a stronger/denser cone and retain the same moving mass as the regular cone woofer.

or you can use the weight savings to raise the FS while using the same spider/coil configuration as the woofers with the normal cone.

or shit i give up, maybe ATEAM is doing it because it LOOKS SICK!

I agree that it does look cool! :D

I imagine the cone has to be pretty lightweight given the size and composition.

I am pretty sure that is not the basket that will be used however no pics until rusty has the patent for it so no 1 can jack the design and I believe that the a team 15 was a proto so they could test it out before it hit the market so rusty would know for sure if it would hold up which is a wise decision as far as I am concerned.also whatever rusty puts up will be tested to be a solid product before he sells it so I am not worried if he says its good that is all I need to hear.
