UMGixxer
I have a pair of Kicker CVX 12s. The website has a maximum vented airspace of 2.25cuft and a maximum sealed airspace of 4.6cuft. First off those numbers almost seem backwards to me. Then I have seen people with enormous enclosures. Why would I want to build an enclosure to lets say 4cuft for a ported enclosure assuming Im just using one sub? And also what would be the difference in me building lets say a 2cuft sealed enclosure versus the 4.6cuft enclosure again assuming im using one sub. How many woofers are you using?? and what amp(s) are you gonna be running?? How much space do u have available to use?? Hes got a pair, 2, of CVX 12s, first and only full sentence i read. After that i looked but ya, poorly worded. What are you asking exactly OP? But he said using only one which confuses me. UMGixxer
Ok well first off I wasnt needing advice on how to design a box. I was just wanting to know why would you build a box bigger than manufactor specs. But I currently have 2 12" Kicker CVX subs and Hifonics Brutus BXi2006D. My current box is 4.5cuft @ approx. 33Hz. And I have a tahoe so size isnt an issue, just wondering why would one build the box bigger.

More power your pushing (at rated, or above) = Smaller box Less power your pushing (below rated) = Bigger box That is the reason people build bigger boxes. Idk if that's exactly what you are asking, but that is to answer the bolded. I was surprised to see alpine saying 1.75 for sealed and 2.25-2.5 ported. Well I built a ported box specs you can see in my sig and they get loud but can do alot more. Manufacturers dont always give you the best specs I guess. I will be redoing my box and probably adding more power after this winter. Like Klown said less power bigger box more power than rated smaller box. my type rs are rated 750 rms but can take much more than that so I am underpowering them and they are in a box too small to begin with. My advice is I'd just listen to the dudes here that know what they are talking about because I tried to save money and do it my own way and I shorted myself and now Im just going to upgrade anyways, I should of just done it to begin with but hey, lesson learned.
