setting gains (thank you DECAF)

Recommended Posts

Amps are dumb. They don't 'know' anything.

All an amp can do is create a voltage difference between 2 points. If you put a resistance (i.e. a speaker) between those points it will cause a current to flow. The amp supplies this current. The amount of current that can flow is limited by the resistance and by how different the voltage is between the terminals of the amp.

thats not true

on alpines u need to put it at 15of15 usually to get 2v

my jvc needs to be 12of12 to get 5v

my friends pioneer gets 4v at 0 on a scale of -6 to +6

its the loudness/bass boost/bbe/ccc/eq features that need to be at 0

how do you find that out?

set your multimeter to AC volts. put the red lead to the pin on the rca (or the hole if its female, giggity) and the black lead on the outside of the rca. should read somewhere between 1-8v (preout voltage specified in your manual)
