Mobile Chassis Dyno Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 Hello all. After being out of the car audio scene for about 15 years I am back to playing with it again. It seems like most everything I see is now made in China. I realize some of the R&D is done here with some companies. I guess I was suprised when I opened up my RE Audio Subs with a "Made in China" on the box. The last time I had made a purchase of Subs and an amp was in 1994. I purchased an Orion 2150sx Amp and 2 Orion XTR DVC 15's. If I recall these were made here in the states. I realize this is my first post and I am not trying to start a flame war. I am looking to get educated and find out if we still make anything here in the states. Thank you in advance. The Chinese are just cheaper, period. I believe JL Audio does the assembling in the states with Asian and american parts while some stuff is just made overseas TRU is supposed to make their amps in the USA... and that is all I can think of... so sad... But let me ask you this, If you took that same sub, added 40% to the price, Would you still buy it or would you look for a comparable sub with a better price point? I mean the first minute is ok but that thing just really starts digging deeper and deeper in your earhole till you cant stand it no more. Seems like it does it with relative ease....16 12's on 8 amps.........gotta love it.

I think about these things and I think about war and with too little of an explanation it actually frightens me to think that we have weakened ourselves to the point that if we have issues with a large country such as China we will have some major issues. Part of the reason I made the purchase of Orion equipment back in the day was because it was made here in the states. I realize just about everything I purchase is made overseas. There are some things like Clothing and Fuel for my car that I must have and it all comes from overseas. It would just be nice to be able to purchase "luxury" items made here in the states. You make a valid point. However, I do not think products produced overseas will always offer the better price. As long as there is some competition I am sure it will be cheaper to purchase from China. Get rid of the competition and watch the price go up. I remember how inexpensive one could buy a new honda civic back in the early 80's Now look at them. I just know that in the big, big picture we are screwed as we do not have all the combined assets we had back during WW I and WW II. Like I sayed this is way bigger than car audio. jbondox Posted January 18, 2010 Report Posted January 18, 2010 yes I would buy at 40% more, but I would expect better products. the crap today is all pretty much off the shelf parts, they will assemble, throw a dust cap on it with whoever the company is and then ship it off... then the companies buying can send it to the marketing department and come up with 10 different ways of saying how they re-invented the wheel... the american work force when tasked can do anything, but now the workforce has become a liability to the company owners and the govt wants to dictate what the company should do, and of course we became lazy, I see it here, and see it in general discussions with people SMD SuperSeller VerifiedJbondoXJames Shields
