How to calculate Bracing volume displacement

I want to use Wooden Dowel rods like 2 for my box i am building for a pair of 15 with 1500 rms total but i want to know how do i calculate the volume in cubic feet that they will take from my box. I know i have to divide by 1728 at some point but what is step 1. I am guessing say i had a dowel rod with a 4 inch diameter and 16.5 inch tall do i just multiply both of those numbers and divide by 1728 or do i also multiply those numbers with the radius of the dowel rod which i think is 2. So 2 times 4 times 16.5 divided by 1728? Please help!!!

4 inch diameter, that's not a dowel it's a freakin' tree trunk.

You take the area of the dowel with is Pi * R * R where R is half the Diameter and Pi is Pi, or 3.14159 for this argument.

Then multiply it by the length of the dowel to get the volume of it.

Then you divide that by 1728 to turn cubic inches into cubic feet, if you feel like it.

To mash it all into 1 nice big equation... (3.14159 * (Diameter divided by 2) * (Diameter divided by 2) * Length) divided by 1728

=(3.14159*(4/2)*(4/2)*16.5)/1728

Chuck that formula in an Excel cell if you like, it'll calculate just fine.

The total is 0.12 cubic feet, by the way.

EDIT: Sooooo ninja'd while I wrote that up, haha.

Thanks a lot i see you were saying its a big dowel, my box will be around 9 cubic feet net volume so im kinda guessing two of these should be enough to brace it but if you think its too much should i lower the diameter of them. My box is 18 inches tall externally so the height of the dowel rod will be 16.5 for sure, just not sure on how much diameter it should be. By the way box will be 47 inches wide, and 26 inches deep. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure where you would find a dowel rod 4" in diameter. I used a few 1" dowels and it worked just fine :)

why are there so many ppl on here that dont know basic math??

1. Most people don't use this everyday

2. He probably graduated High School like 15 years ago

3. I'm sure there are MANY things he is good at that don't involve 9th grade math :P
