qu1cks1lver56 Posted January 21, 2010 Report Posted January 21, 2010 I've always had a slight hiss in my system, it was in my van and it's the same in my truck, just a little louder in my truck since there's 2 sets of components right there instead of one set. It attenuates with the headunit (9887) and I really don't know what to do about it. Any ideas? Ground RCA's? The headunit has a pretty good ground. The amp is grounded to the frame. Idk what to do, I've heard that the RF balanced line driver gets rid of ALL noise but I don't want to have to buy 3 of them, if I spend that much why not buy a 3sixty First Gen Xterra: Always changing DNX 690HD RF 360.3RF T3002RF T4004RF T10001bdSilver Flute 6.5"s Tang Band 1" TweetersSundown X18 in 7cubes net tuned to 32hz Trust me .25 Blows your Load.

toaster Posted March 6, 2010 Report Posted March 6, 2010 Sounds like your amp gains are too high. In order to lower the noise floor of your system, you need to lower your gains. Sounds like your head unit doesn't have enough voltage to drive your amplifier. Blackedout Posted March 7, 2010 Report Posted March 7, 2010 Hissing is caused by one source not matching another source's voltage. If you're running an IPOD, does it hiss? On a CD does it hiss? Make sure to tune your amp on a CD, eliminate the hissing by adjusting the gains on the amp or any sources you have before the amp and after the deck. The reason I say CD is because you can tune out the hiss on the ipod, put a CD in and still have a hiss. So, it's actually up to you. If you even run an IPOD or not, choose whichever music device you use the most and tune. Grounding the deck is just a cover up. With the exception of a few pioneer decks that have retarded integrated fuses, a properly installed quality headunit (4v+ output) with quality rcas ran correctly shouldn't have any motor noise at all. Doesn't sound like that is your problem, but grounding your deck won't get rid of your hiss. - Jake Trunk Build Log
