uhoh_45
so i've had a 9515F for longest time now but never use it, when i bought it i just couldnt pass up on such the great deal 250$ fresh recone well my question here is what is the best box to run it in, i heard DD's likes small box's space isnt really an issue (going in the back of a 95 trooper) and power will be a powerbass xa300d runnin at .7 ohms really what im looking for here is what the best port area to cubic foot ratio would be im looking to tune around 33-34 hz any helps appreciated R.I.P! Marlo Stanfield
I used to have the same exact woofer a few years back and mine liked 3.75ft3 @ 36hz w/ 50-55in2 of port area(don't remember the exact number)... I tested it in a few different size/tuned boxes that I had and this was the best daily enclosure. 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer... New setup, old ride... QX56 is staying stock til I get loud... uhoh_45
so 3.75 and around 14^2 of port and 36hz you say ever try that ratio with lower tuning say 34hz aswell what vehicle? and power and is that 3.75 gross or net? mlstrass
First I've ever heard of DD's liking smaller enclosures for daily, maybe for SPL with a ton of power and high tuning. I've built a LOT of DD/AQ boxes for daily and they like large boxes and higher tuning. I'd do 4.5cubes net and tune to 38Hz, unless you plan to play a lot of C&S music, then tune to 35Hz, but there is NO reason to tune a DD sub lower then that as they will play below tuning. Go to DD's website and look at the recommended box specs and go to their forum and see what guys are actually using for daily set ups.
Marlo Stanfield
so 3.75 and around 14^2 of port and 36hz you say ever try that ratio with lower tuning say 34hz aswell what vehicle? and power and is that 3.75 gross or net? I looked back into my old notes on had on my testing with this woofer and this was the second loudest enclosure tested on music.. Loudest one was 4.25ft3 @ 36hz w/ 60in2 of port area or so. Like Mlstrass mentioned for daily purposes DD + AQs generally do best with like 35-40hz tuning for daily, and will pick up just about every note a lowered tuned enclosure would. All box volume that is list is after all displacement. Also all of the testing that I've done in the past 4 years has been in my Expo. 1998 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer... New setup, old ride... uhoh_45
alright sounds good 35 hz tuning and roughly 4-4.5 cubes sounds great i'll be sure to get some results back to you two once the box is built but that wont be till the snow starts melting thanks for the help R.I.P! audiofanaticz
If your going for high numbers, then yea DD like small boxes to control impedance rise at said burp freq. A said dual 2 ohm DD woofer tends to have a higher impedance rise when compared to a "brand X" woofer with a dual 2 ohm coil, however with the higher impedance rise they almost always seem to be louder in a box built around the "brand X" woofer with less power, but really shine when used in a optimized box for the DD. If your looking at daily use Id go 6 to 6.75 cubed after displacements with 13 to 14 square inches of port... The subwoofer is the most un-efficient thing in a car stereo, the bigger the box, the more you are raising its efficiency.
