Can you imagine what it would mean to the audio enthusiasts? Pushing thousands of watts out of amplifiers a fraction of the size, off much smaller wire. Pushing a higher voltage through the same wire pushes a ton of current, but less amperage making smaller wire capable of pushing a ton of power. I'm curious as to if anyone has ever thought about this? It may never even reach production, but it's crazy to think that 150,000 watts in an audio system now... But off 42 volts, if my thought process is on the right track, 150,000 watts could be similar in size to a 50,000 watt system..... Meaning the average 1000 watt system would be NOTHING in the car audio world, and the 10,000-15,000 watt system would be like a 3,000-5,000 watt system now.... We can only dream big, right? Beanz Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 Geez and im running like 800 watts to my subs way to make me feel all sad now but it would be cool but damn to have to get rid of all our 12 volt stuff and make room for the 42 volt and then it'll get expensive as you'd need more precious metals and stuff for it to not melt as quick. from waht i read in there That's why they don't deliver. Yer ass better go sit along the side of the road and wait. You can't expect them to travel up some dirt road in a hick / back woods town. Thats how horror movies start I explain things very simply and use analogies in terms of Pickles, and grape drink, pool noodles and jackhammers...if you can't put 2 and 2 together there man, There simply is not much more I can do.

I don't think they bring up a 42 volt system because alots of peoples out there wouldn't be using all that power on vehicle. It quite a big money investement to bring up. There are cars with over 3000 to 5000 watts system out there already.
basshead4life Posted February 12, 2010 Report Posted February 12, 2010 i was thinking about running the higher voltage but not the same way. say you had 4 amps running on 15V that pulled 200 amps each, and you wanted an awesome electrical so you get 800 amps of alts and 8 big batts. you would probably run 6-8 runs (+/-) of 1/0 from front to back but if you had a 60V 200 amp alt you could use 2 runs (+/-) of 1/0 carring 60 v and put the batts paralled in pairs and then the 4 pairs in series so each set sees 15v then you run 1 amp off each pair of batts. you could still carry the same wattage but with much less heat, engine strain, and wire. Exactly. Cars won't ever reach over 42 volts because anything over the magical number 42 is deemed dangerous. Trunk Build Log

Any time you have have a power wire next to your frame put some rubber hosing (or cut up an innertube) around it. The wire is bound to wiggle (due to driving or flex) and the casing will eventually wear through. Hammerdown... 1% no links to outside websites, business related FB/YT pages allowed.
