David
ive metered many times....aiming forward while isolated from the trunk WILL gain you on the meter. The reason you need to be completely sealed is because of cancellation and no other reason....not because the "bass fills everything up". When you aim backwards there is no cancellation thats why it sounds good that way. Aimed forward with air gaps will get major cancellation and usually is the worst way to do it. When isolated the sound waves cant go backwards and cancel out on the way back. IN A TRUNK CAR: If you dont isolate, aim backwards it will sound great. If you do aim forward and dont isolate it will sound like poop. If you aim forward and completely isolate, it will sound GREAT and gain you on the meter, not to mention your taillights, trunk lid, and deck lid wont be vibrating so theres a plus and a half right there. Thats my conclusion. X100 meade speaks da truf. my mustang is a prime example of this. subs facing rear of the car 133.4 subs facing forward sealed from the trunk 143.3 both installs had same amp hifonics 1205D but differrent subz

Skip01
Holy crap u gained 10dbs from facing forward.....will it normally be that big a diff? I can test it out no prob on the meter....but its gonna be a pain tryin to seal it off...only cuz im lazy. Like does it have to sealed air tight or just blockinf it.....i dont get the reasonin behind it....anyone wanna explain a lil further like the technicla aspect of why sealin it works....thanks. emperorjj1
well think about it this way... if you face the subs forward and seal it air tight then all the sound waves are forced foward... if you dont seal it then some waves go backward and refect but since it takes time to do so it ends up canceling out some of the soundwaves (sorta like an echo) now if your tunk isnt sealed then faceing them back will send pretty much all the waves backward to reflect towards the driver (most reflections get louder but it depends on what is reflecting the sound glass is usually the best hence why hatchbacks are so popular for spl) Quote J. AP Zoutes
this is a good read to understand a little better..... http://www.installer.com/tech/aiming.html He doesn't seal off trunk and have subs in car ,but this does make it easier to undderstand why this works
andym85
emperorjj1 what he said...but it has to be sealed off air tight, not just some half ass seal job, cause if there is a spot for soundwaves to go into the rear, it will happen Quote i likes me some audio stuff...
