ok so i got my recone back from JL 2 days ago, i built a box @ 32hz as JL specified on the manual, hooked it up and its distorted like hell, most likeley something mechanical like last time i got my other one fixed. 280$ for a recone and i cant even hear it all the way most likely they sent me one with a blown coil because right when i hooked it up it sounded like SHIT, but my other one i got reconed last month sounds fine like it always did.

all i know is if JL does not give me a refund or ship my sub out for free and get it repaired for free, i WILL take this into court. They've been nothing but rude to me over the phone numerous of times. I was happy when i got my recone until i hooked it up. Hell i even took it out of the box and it sounded the same. but it reads 2.9-3.0ohms on the multimeter. This is a JL w7 12 btw. its pathetic that i ran it @ 1.5ohms and it cant even properly play, even @ 3ohms it still doesnt properly play.

what do you guys think of this stupid ass shit, i spent over 600$ just on 2 recones. one came out just fine and the other one is mechanically not working right.

you bought JL... why do you think so many people stay away from the W7? its because the recones are almost as much as the woofer. If I were you I would try to sell them off or something and get some nice RE's or FI's. I'm not going to bash JL's quality because it is good, but still, they are very overpriced and you pay for the name. You probably won't be able to get anywhere in court, there's probably some fine print warranty agreement that will protect them, maybe something like its only valid if an authorized JL dealer did the install or recone.. not trying to be a dick here it's like trying to fight a grizzly bear with a tooth pick. ..you cant win.

you can't hook a single 3ohm coiled sub up as 1.5ohm.... sounds like your running an all pass filter on it...

edit: It could have coil rub or have a shifted magnet from shipping.

i still dont believe this though i didnt even have the gains up or anything, it it was distorted like hell, my other one sounds just fine, all i know if they dont recone it properly i will do something about it, its not blown or anything its something mechanically making it distort.

i did everything i even took it out of the box and looked inside the box to see if there was anything cracked from wood glue or something, even checked it the port was loose, everything is tight, i even took it out of the box and played it and measured it on the multimeter, it reads 2.9-3.0ohms.
