Adding bass to rock songs?

I got audacity and have been playing around with it a bit with some hip hop songs, but there is still a lot to learn about and I'm hoping some of you guys who post your slowed/boosted/chopped songs can help me out with this. When adding some more bass to a rock song that has very little bass, whats the proper way to go about it? I've heard what BigPimpin doesn to some of his songs such as Comfortably Numb and Sail Away With Me, and that's what I'm talking about. Does he add a whole new bass line to the parts or what? Just curious and would like to mess around with songs in my collection just for fun and to kill some time. I tried to do it some ways messing around, and the bass doesn't sound right and the lyrics are kind of quiet.

Bass up some rock tracks and you'll receive reach around from me.....just sayin....only good rock though

I've done a few but just bass boosting them doesn't sound too great IMO. If i can figure out how bigpimpin does his then that'd get me on the right track.

u need to create a bass line with the sine wave generator if u are using audacity

this is the hardest way to create a bassline correctly, lol (a keyboard a drum machine with a good computer would be WAY easier)

the hardest thing is timing, if u are off 0.05seconds u can hear it, i tend to rely on 0.0001 to add my small bass lines or highpassfilters and so on... but its taken years, lol

remember about clippin tho, most rock is already at or near clipping, the second u add any bass line over it u will clip it (sine wave generator makes 30db sine waves by default)

phil collins, sail away, aint no sunshine... all are songs that arent really that loud to begin with, or have few instruments, this is what gives us more "room" to add a bass line without exceeding the 30db limit (anything above that is cutoff a.k.a. clipped)

I figured it was a pain and a lot of learning to do over time trial and error, but thats a good point about rock songs already being close to clipping anyway. There wouldn't happen to be a how-to would there? If not I'll leave it to the pros on this board. I wanted to try and see if that song 'Come on Feel the Noise' could get some boosting, would be a little ironic with bass ha.

boosting and adding ur own bass line are totally different

its easy to boost a song til it almost/barely clips
