UnderLoK Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 How bout Randy Kubeck's 10" AA woofer having the motor fall off? I bet Nick would blame that on the box design or something absurd. We can just thank out lucky stars that other manufactures don't blame every single failure on user error. It must be convienent to be in a postion where your product is created with a 0% failure rate. It slays me that many of these companies create products with a warranty that doesn't actually exist, it's all smoke and mirrors. It wouldn't suprise me if 99% of their failures are due to shipping (even one that fails 4 months later must have been damaged on the way there initially). Some of these guys need to come back down to planet earth. Faulty pieces and or failures are part of manufacturing, there is no two ways about it ESPECIALLY products that are hand made. Does that mean Trippi's sub was faulty, nope, but seeing an attitude where it is impossible that the product was faulty is just laughable. It happens all the time in high end audio, someone says "my sub blew" and EVERYONE responds "did you use a scope?!" or "you must have been clipping" or "your amp must have done it" or any other number of canned responses. Am I really the only one that actually thinks that this person could have received a faulty product? Sometimes I think so... As a general rule is it user error? Sure, but doesn't mean always. I guess it's just something you pick up when you work in places that make hundreds of thousands of parts a day using machines and robots that cost hundreds of millions of dollars. I guess it's an experience that brings manufacturing into perspective especially hand made vs machine made. I'm not saying this method is any better (for large quantities obviously it is), it just brings things into perspective especially companies that deny failures across the board. Soundstream's XXX line for example has 0% failure rate and according to their support arm. NDMstang65 Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Ha, your remarks are amusing actually. Talk about brand favoritism, Nick is the thick headed one that cant even accept a slim possibility that a product he may have been a part of is not "Indestructable". And BTW, Thats the only non positive thing I have said about the sub on here or anywhere public. I am part of T3, but through this build I have done tons of marketing of AA and have given great reviews to people and probably even made sales. I have never talked about points I see lacking about the woofer, I wasnt even gonna tell anyone it blew because as professional courtesy, I dont believe in talking about other companies product failures. Now Nick, he is extremely pompous, egotistical, thick headed, arrogant, and rude. He shows tremendous brand favoritism and it's impossible for him to ever have an unbiased opinion. How bout Randy Kubeck's 10" AA woofer having the motor fall off? I bet Nick would blame that on the box design or something absurd. He cant even see through his ego that mistakes and failures can happen for any number of reasons. The fact he is blaming me is just dumb. And he isnt even really giving advice and thats why I am closing my ear to him, he is just nit picking and bashing, not being helpful at all. When you build thousands of speakers...instead of talking about building thousands of speakers like those who we all know and love. 1 out of a thousand..isn't a bad track record. I don't sugar coat anything, I call the course for how it is. I tell the truth, because that really hurts. You don't like it? It hurts your feelings? I'm sorry I've pointed out the top 5 flaws BIG no no's in a HUGE install that you've done. You should treat YOUR CUSTOMER RIGHT and fix the damn thing. I would feel horrible if I presented something to somebody like that...and the work was that far below par of how things should be done...knowing there are going to be problems. I'll give it to you, you can make indiglo lights like none other..and that is pretty cool. If you did something good, I would commend you on doing something good. If you came up with the SMD...I would pat you on the back and say good job. Putting effort into something is one thing, knowing how to really do it right is another. This isn't highschool...you don't get a passing grade because the government says "No child should be left behind". You can't tell somebody how to do something when they are too ignorant to listen...I pointed out what you need to fix so his vehicle doesn't burn to the damn ground. Now fix it. Soundstream's XXX line for example has 0% failure rate and according to their support arm. I'm not going to lie..this is the first one that has broken. I have no reason to lie...unlike others lol. Trippi and I are going to get together and i'm going to pick the sub up. If it is a warranty issue,cool..not a problem. I'll say yes this broke and on down the road we go. However, a speaker being turned on..and frying in 10 seconds without playing music and completely going up in smoke is totally indicative of DC voltage being shot out of the rails on the amp. It's only a matter of time before it gets to 530 degrees and makes the coil glow and burn off the glue holding it together. We do have warranty situations that we take care of, that isn't a problem. Stupidity...is not covered under warranty. Speakers are stupid..they do what you tell them to do in the environment that you place them in. If you flop one below tuning without a subsonic filter and it actually has enough coil to make it move..plan on it not lasting very long. Authorized Ascendant Audio Dealer! NDMstang65 Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 You arent giving any good advice. You are so pompous and egotistical. You dont have any knowledge of this install except for the pics and a few vids you have seen. You dont know the whole circumstance surrounding the blown woofer so how can you accurately judge the failure? Do you even work for Fi/AA? Do you evaluate product failures often? Ooh 2 coils 1 gap. One coil is in the gap and the other is not, woofer moves and the other coil is in the gap. Yeah super secret tech there. Think outside the box, ha, if you even knew what I have done in the past and what I have in store for the future. You really are so stuck inside yourself that you cant see anything. Hows that super long former and basic paper cone working out? Dont believe they can cause issues? That your design is so perfect? Go ahead and throw that woofer in a 165+ dB Superstreet car or 175+ dB extreme car and see how indestructable they are. Look, the SMD woofer is built incredibly well, and plays extremely clean, especially for a woofer of its caliber. And AA has teamed up with a tremendous spokesman in Steve Meade, who shows how amazing this thing is. But then they have you who just makes people get a bad taste in their mouth whenever you comment on any forum. You are best behind the scenes so I suggest you stay there. Now the circumstances around the woofer failure that you are so quick to ignore and blame other things are this. - Finished connecting woofers to amps at the show at Carlisle 30 minutes before tow truck took it away from me. -Subs and amps were un tested and un tuned, but all played. -Truck sat at another installer's shop for 2 weeks for other work -Other installer beated and pounded on system into clipping on numerous occasions. -Truck returned to me for tuning. -Found RCA issues on final 4 amps, 2 of which are on blown woofer. -RCA issue was causing un equal voltage output from amps. -RCA fixed, and amps all matched -All woofers played, however individual coils not tested before tow truck picked up truck again. -2 weeks later Trippi notified me a woofer wasnt playing. -a few days later at another shop the woofer sparked and smoked. Now you asked why it would spark. Hmm, lets see. Well the coil came unwound, maybe thats it. The super long former could have wobbled but it didnt. So start to think what would cause a coil to unwind. Over current, over heat? Also, the woofers are built very well. But AA has a coil supplier correct? Well, if that coil supplier produces 1000 coils, and has a 1% failure rate, thats 10 coils that can have issues right off the bat. And yes, every manufacturer has a failure rate no matter how small. My point here is that there a more factors than what you know and you are too quick to jump to conclusions. My other pojnt is that I dont like you and if you go to recone the sub, I am not going because I dont wanna meet you. Glad I won't get to meet you P.S. You couldn't be any farther off on how that thing works...think..polar opposite and you'll get close. There are no issues with coil rock even with how long the former is. Because...the pole is treated with a special material that I use in industrial applications where things are made to rub together for millions of cycles. I use similar anodized aluminum material that actually rubs against steel with this coating, and has been cycling for over a year now 24-7/365 and has not failed yet. When it does fail (which it will after about 2 years) then I will go in and replace it, and we're back and running again..the coating does not come off or wear out or burn off. The coil cannot hit the outside of the motor because there is less room on the inside of the pole then there is on the outside of the pole. For the record the supergauss design has already been tested in a 165+dB SS vehicle..and an extreme vehicle. Coil rubbing and rocking is not an issue, if you are intelligent enough to counter it...which you probably think we never thought of that..but we did..and it isn't a problem. We wouldn't be making them if it was silly boy. Glad we've affirmed that we're like oil and water, we will never get along and will never mix. Authorized Ascendant Audio Dealer! Trippi Posted September 10, 2010 Author Report Posted September 10, 2010 i say leave it as is( non wall instead of wall) why do somethin everyone else can do when you can do you I love it just the way it is..but i do have to take into consideration the amp setup..if it's a matter of time before thet break I have to change it. I would just like to point out the fact that this entire build when ever a compliment was stated about the build and installation Ed never wanted to say that it was all that great or he could have done better.. he was very humble about the entire thing not to be another "nut hugger" but I say props to you Ed for having a plan and going through with it all the way to the end. I remember reading a quote from Steve that said with big systems comes big problems keep up the good work and I still hope to meet you out here in Cali Trippi bring the hummer out and I will have a "Haters Love Me" decal waiting for you well deserved Heck yeh I still plan on coming out.. hopefully trippi will still be here in FL for slamfest cause i plan on bein in that mofo lol Thats the plan..just have to see how this works out This thread is in the last 4 pages has turned into a major FAIL. so true ~~~~CHODE FTW~~~~ DC4LYFE
Trippi Posted September 10, 2010 Author Report Posted September 10, 2010 Ok ok ladies..now that both of you have vented let's move on. Ed I appreciate everthing you have done for me. And Nick, thanks in advance for your willingness to help get everything situated...but no more bashing each other in this thread. At first it was beneficial to hear both of your points of view but now it's just getting crazy. Any more of this and it's a 3 day for each of you. lol...nah but seriously, let's just focus on getting things right and leave the personal stuff out. Ed, I know you put more in this build than anyone can imagine so I understand how you are taking things personally. But at the end of the day, I'm still happy and people on here know that you're a beast no matter what. And Nick, I know that you want to see your subs in the ideal situation and if you perceive it as anything less than that then it's not ok. And even besides the subs, you want to make sure that the overall install is safe I will say that Ed never bashed AA to me..not once..and that says a lot to his character. Doing an install with this much exposure and not featuring his own product was not a conflict with him at all. Over the next week or so the THREE of us will come up with the best solution. Yes, the 3 of us...wether you guys like it or not. ..(hey steve..we need one of these with 3 people)I'm going to respect Nick and his knowledge of these subs and Ed's capabilities to do top notch installs. Getting rid of that box is gonna hurt but if it makes sense then it has to be done. If we wall it I hope to be able to use all 6 and still make it look . And walling it may even let us see what the SMDs are really capable of..so end the end..we all win. ~~~~CHODE FTW~~~~ DC4LYFE
PUNKYOU007 Posted September 10, 2010 Report Posted September 10, 2010 Look at your truck, your truck is amazing Give it a lick, It tastes just like rasins How bout we get along and work TOGETHER.
