How are they compared to the old ones? the old ones were good but they lacked the lowend to me. Correct, but I think I might avoid the 501bd and get the 1001bd since I heard nothing but bad news bout em.. I always loved the ol school Rockfords amps and i just dont see any other amps doing what these amps can do for the price and technology on em. NO No you do not want to strap 2 different BDs together. They need to be the same amp to be strapped, so you would need another 1501BD or a BD1500.1 or any of the 1500s from 2001,2002, and 2003. 1501 strapped to 1501 1001 strapped to 1001 501 strapped to 501 I do recommend the new ones for strapping because of the master, slave controls.
