a cheap alternative to dynamat and all the other overpriced deadeners, is called peel-n-seal. Its available at Lowes and some home depots might have it. It's used for roofing, just clean the bottom side of your deck lid, I like to use a rag with a little bit of paint thinner/reducer.

No, the thinner will not make your paint come off btw...just get it clean and let it dry, then start putting on the deadener of your choice. The one I named will be more then enough to stop your trunk, and its under $15 for a nice sized roll.

Despite what will be said about it "falling off" or "stinking" none of that is true. I have it it for a few years, in both freezing and 100+ deg summers. Not a single problem and I never smelled it once, my new sub box had more of an odor because of the fresh cut wood... Whatever deadener you use, just prep it well and you will be fine.

If you want the easiest alternative, buy a new car, one that doesn't rattle, all you have to do then is chuck your sub in there and add a few wires. Glue and deadening is cheaper. building a new box is UNNECESSARY it's not going to change anything, the only reason it would be quieter is because sealed requires more power. If it sounds like shit anyway (if nothing is rattling) burn that prefab box and build a nice sealed one, or if you can't build them yourself, design it, then get a shop to build it to your specs.

Before you buy anything, go to secondskinaudio.com or sounddeadenershowdown.com (or something like that) and take a look.

Send emails to the owners, both answer to emails fast.

They will tell you what to do to stop the rattles.

Get all the info first.

Peal and seal may not be the solution for you. Be careful !

In résumé : fix the rattles. Forget that sealed box idea(or turn the bass down !)
