pstone11 Posted June 26, 2007 Report Posted June 26, 2007 Well, everytime I take my truck apart to mess with the system, I feel bad for it and have to buy it something new. I was having some brake fade on really hot days and serious squeak on rainy days, so I went with some drilled/slotted rotors and a set of ceramic pads. What a pain to change these suckers out..... If anybody has messed with 4x4 chevy's especially the HD types, these things suck to change. First there's the axle nut (165 foot pounds), the caliper is cake, then the rotor/hub assy are held on by 4 15mm bolts in close proximity to the CV boot that love to round off (I got lucky and only fucked up one - 6 point socket and all) Then the hub and rotor are held together with the lug studs, so you have to beat those suckers out without messing them up..... The one I rounded off took 2 hours to drill out (the top right one) because I didn't want to mess up the boot... It's really close with a 3/4" drill bit. But they turned out really nice, and I'll post up how they work out compared to the old stuff... The truck looks really happy though... meade916 Posted June 27, 2007 Report Posted June 27, 2007 well how do you like them? My brand new brakes are already making noise so i may just "brake-down" and get me some new rotors too. I wonder if ill have to do all that to change it though......i mean if a Helicopter mechanic is rounding off bolts then my truck REALLY isnt going to like my channel-lock "ratchet" set. (j/k i use vice grips ) Quote All SMD products + MORE available at my store here! https://wccaraudio.com/ Subscribe to My Youtube Channel! Over 1,000,000 subscribers strong!
