ANOTHER different build, 2 12s doing 147 @ 42 hz :)

Recommended Posts

excellent good sir. I love this idea and wish there were competition formats for "budget builds". I built a flyweight setup thinking it would be cheap and was sadly mistaken. It seems like most comps around these parts are all about who can throw the most money at it. I'll be posting some builds in this thread if you don't mind. Or maybe I should start my own lol.

Thanks a lot dave!! in case you don´t know this, you are the biggest reason i´m doing these projects right now, after i met you and saw your amazing builds on youtube, i had to learn how to get loud using small equipments, i use to get loud with big cone area and power, but when i needed to build an efficient system, i sucked at it, i still do actually, but not as i did before lol.

You inspired me to learn way more than i already knew, and my god i think i´m doing it, you can see it on this video, a box without any work in it using 35$ subs scoring over 148 dbs?? i´m pretty sure i can take this project over 150 without ANY problems, but i´m not gonna do it right now, i´m gonna try cheap system after cheap system without much work inside the box lol.

Panamenian comps are turning that way too man, and i think it sucks, if you don´t use expensive subs and tons of power, you ain´t doing it right, that´s why i´m doing this projects now. What´s a "flyweight setup"? i mean, you should learn some spanish god dammit lol, of course you canpost ALL THE BUILDS you want in here, that would be sweet, something like: "Strongmandesigns and fecupe2001 cheap buildlogs" hehe, please do it, would be more than happy having your loud and not expensive systems posted on this topic :)

I´m gonna update this topic in a couple of days, i´m building a box for a single DD 3518 and 2200 watts with a single battery in the Explorer, remember this sub it´s been abused since 2008 so i don´t think the score is gonna be the best lol, anyways, after this build here´s a list of what´s coming:

1) Single DD 3518 and 2000 watts

2) Single DD 2512 and 1200 watts

3) 2 DD 2512´s and 2200 watts on a 6th order bandpass

4) 2 cheap pioneer 12´s 400 watts a pice using a 1200 watts

5) 4 Sony Xplod 12´s on 2200 watts

Guys, just giving a little update since i´m bored at home lol, i built a TEST BOX for a single DD 3518 and a Digital Designs m1b wired at 1 ohm, we are talking about stupid small power on a piece of shit box, i had some 3/4" MDF laying on the storage that was getting some damage because of humidity, so i went ahead and used it on the "cagapalo" box, i just wanted to test mostly internal space and port area for a single sub, since i couldn´t test this before because my suzuki swift was way too small and couldn´t fit a proper box in there.

Anyways, box it´s 8.3 cubic feet using aeros, i get something like this:

2 6" Aeros: 28 hz tuning

3 6" Aeros: 34 hz tuning

4 6" Aeros: 38 hz tuning

Once again, i didn´t care too much about the score on this piece of crap, just wanted to try different port areas, the pics:

Yes, it´s my audio truck, looked like crap just like the box i was about to build lol

Better :)

img01452201111031153.jpg

img01455201111031326.jpg

As you can see, it´s a single 3/4" layer without ANY bracing, just an old dowel that didn´t help at all lol

I´m lazy, specially when it´s a test box, so i didn´t use the internal flares, and the external were just duct taped :)

img01457201111031404.jpg

Only thing that looks good on this build it´s the magnet lol

img01459201111031421.jpg

If you guys are wondering about the aeros placement, then you are right, they are way to high, i had to place them right there because the MDF it´s so old, that if i placed them lower as i should, the box would be way too weak and start leaking right away, anyways, in the sexplorer :peepwall:

Main porpouse of this build, testing port areas :drinks

Now with 4 aeros...

And finally, using only 2 aeros:

So how did it sound and which one sounded better?

Yo dave, well, definitely louder using 4 6" Aeros, but the box got way too peaky, then i tested 3 aeros and man that thing was NASTY as hell, after that, i finally played around with 2 aeros and dropped 2.3 dbs wich is an AWESOME test if you ask me, if you remember my swift, i only could fit 4 6" PVC tubes because of the small back area the car had, and i still managed to hit a 151 @ 40 hz using small power, now i know for sure, that i could have gotten at least around 153 on a no wall box using small power and these 2 subs :)

Last pic i have , TL score!!!

img01464201111031622.jpg

Yes, i know it´s a shitty score using an 18" with 1200 watts, but before you make any conclusions, think about these things:

1) Box is big as hell, didn´t care about the score.

2) Box built with old MDF and leaking everywhere.

3) Box flexes everywhere, specially the top baffle, i can even see the magnet and basket moving A LOT.

4) No bracing, no fiberglass, no resin, no 45´s .

5) Not even a single thing from my "SPL Gains topic" used on this box.

6) Ports are placed too high

7) No internal flares

8) Low tuning

9) Box is too high choking the airflow around the box, my explorer HATES anything above 14.5" high

10) Didn´t play with settings, seats positioning, box placement or anything.

11) It´s a test box!!!

I could keep going and say at least 5 or 6 more things on this build, so, if you think 146.5 dbs @ 40 hz using a single 1200 watts amp wired at 1 ohm on a 4 years old 18" sub it´s bad, then i guess there´s nothing i can do :)
