cubs_fan0718
A really good friend of my dad, told me yesterday that instead of fiberglass resin on the inside of the box i should get any kind of latex paint and mix it with sand but make it still spreadable he said the sound will be better (better frequency output), than using the resin has anyone tried this? btw he has been in the audio business for many years and i trust his word. 06 Impala SSKenwood Excelon DDX593 Ampere Audio 150.4 Ampere Audio 5K1 XS D4700 (front)Mechman 320a Alt. w/ Big 3 Lots of Second Skin Damplifier Under Construction for 2017
abervintageman42
I have never once heard of this, it kinda seems like putting sand and latex paint would do the opposite of what he says
HHR Ed
sounding better is very subjective. But latex paint isnt good when its too thick and not very structural. Mixing sand and polyester resin (fiberglass) gives you a very strong material that is extremely dense and dead to sound. But it almost permanent. I mix in glass fibers as well. HHR Ed
so doing this would have a better response than just doing nothing on the inside of the box? in other words like u said, make it more dead as to not get a unwanted frequency or a response from ur box? Well, sometimes you want the box to resonate. Like I said, sounding good is subjective. You may not like how it sounds but others might. But its a very small difference and may not even be audible in most cases. But in SPL, you can see a change, and add strength to the enclosure. HHR Ed
And as far as frequency response and "frequency output" as you said. That has to do with box size and port. What your talking about hear is resonance. Thank you, maybe ill build 2 different boxes and see which one sounds better or audibly louder. if i can even tell it might be a waste of 30 bucks and time but its all about trial and error right? 06 Impala SSKenwood Excelon DDX593 Ampere Audio 150.4 Ampere Audio 5K1 XS D4700 (front)Mechman 320a Alt. w/ Big 3 Lots of Second Skin Damplifier Under Construction for 2017
HHR Ed
Thank you, maybe ill build 2 different boxes and see which one sounds better or audibly louder. That is the only real way to do it.
