what are the pros and cons of a capacitor

Recommended Posts

the only thing i disagree with you on is the alternator. Increasing the alt's capacity will benefit the entire system if its one of the first things done. the batteries need to charge some how. and never forget the fact that when voltage is higher, less amperage is required to create a specific wattage. why wouldnt you want to be in the 14v range full tilt, all day everyday?

right i feel you im gone get my damn car fix first, upgrade my wiring, get an alt, then an battery and i should be fine thanks man!

A little background would be good first. He has a Power Acoustik BAMF 5500, and that's gonna power a 15" Fi BTL. He has no electrical upgrades yet, and I will be helping with his system install. I have been telling him that he is gonna need a run of positive and negative from the front to the back, both 1/0g. He will have his Big # upgrade done in 1/0g. I am trying to tell him that he doesn't need a upgraded alt at this point, but he should do the proper wiring, and get a second battery. They have cheap batterys that will be good for his use at the auto part stores.

Do you agree???

now when you mean run both pos and neg 1/0awg from front to back is you talking about for my power and ground wire for my bamf amp? or just to hook up a extra battery in the trunk?

so basically caps are for extra power boost on really long bass notes?

no

they benefit on fast pulse notes when your batteries cant deliver the power fast enough

just to run the amp. If it were me I'. Run one for each that way when u get a battery it's a 5 minute process to install

take baby steps, u cant do it all at once unless u have a roll of 100's big enough to choke a donkey

no I completely agree I go to school for electronics and j know this. But in my experience less amperage getting pulled from your system because voltage is high is a benefit. I mean you don't need to be pulling ad many amps from you alt and battery bank. Again all of this is all directly correlated with each other. The main thing here is I'm helping Flint810 with this build and he wanted to make sure I was right about getting runs or both pos and neg to the back and the big three. Then later a battery and alt

Caps are good tools when used in the correct application. They store energy in high current, and are able to dissipate that energy in an instant. Its like a reservoir. And to people who say capacitors are useless in car audio, look inside your amplifier, count how many capacitor banks there are.

thank you

just because people dont know what they should be used for doesnt mean they are useless
