dwz Posted June 3, 2010 Report Posted June 3, 2010 Hey guys... I have two amps. And the one on my LEFT side will go into protect mode at random, and ONLY on the left side. I've already had that amp replaced /w a new one. I installed a Stinger Voltage Meter on that amp in case it happened again to find out what it was. In the middle of playin some Evil Pimp (definitely still sending less than 500wRMS to my amp), it just starts goin into protect mode and the meter says "9.0, LO, 13, 12, 10, 11". It was TRIPPING OUT! At the same time my amp is flashing and all that. So I unplug the RCAs, wait a little bit, and then the amp is back at 14v. WTF! Do you think it's because my battery was running low and it cut off power to my amp, or is it my wiring kit (I'm running 1 8gauge per amp)? I've already replaced the fuse holder... I'm thinking it might be a pinched power wire too. What do you think is happening??

dwz Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 The manuals for the mrp-m500s say 8 gauge should be enough per amp. However I do agree /w using 4gauge for the hell of it. Just gotta save up for some 0gauge, distro blocks, and a new battery... And n8ball, I had another amp that I replaced /w this new one, and it freaked out a few times til it died completely. I must say, I smelled electronics this time. UGH BUT the weirdest part is it's only happening to one of the amps. Only on one kit. Lemme just add... one of the wiring kits is Rockford Fosgate, the other is a Streetwires kit (which happens to be the kit goin to the amp that messes up the most). Hmmm maybe its the streetwires trash.
dwz Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 I mean I guess I should have expected that... I was beatin on the system for probably 6 hours /w some Evil Pimp (which goes hard, I can see why the amps were workin hard), /w an aging Alternator and Battery... Guess that's how we learn..

You ahve two amp kits ran from the battery back correct? both connected to the same spot? im willing to bet if you got another volt meter and put it on the other amp it will be a higher voltage. dwz Posted June 3, 2010 Author Report Posted June 3, 2010 Correct, they're both going to the same place.. I think maybe my wire is pinched, because my fuse keeps popping. I was thinking, if my voltage was that low, wouldn't my other amp have the same issue? Cause I was sittin at 13.8-14.2 (drops to 13.8 on big hits) which is pretty good compared to the 13.3-13.8 (drops to 13.3 if I bump at 100% volume, goes back up to 13.8 in between hits) I get after bumping my system for a good while if I don't drive 40mph+ to charge my battery.. I'm thinking when it went into low voltage it was because the fuse melted or whatever. It still gets power, I've been watching /w my volt meter, and randomly itll drop down to 10-11 for no reason at all, which I think will happen til I replace the fuse. (note, I'm not using the amp at the moment til I replace the fuse) So I'm gonna get rid of that streetwire kit today and replace it /w rockford until I get my new batt and 0 gauge... Is it possible the ground is causing a short? like say the ground isn't 100% secure, and it wiggles, can't that cause the wire to short also? And this probably causes damage to the amp, huh?

dwz Posted June 4, 2010 Author Report Posted June 4, 2010 So I read some threads and realized I should be using 40amp fuses not 60amp for my 8gauge kits. Dang Im retarded. I also fixed my ground (bolted it instead of screwed it).. hella secure now Just hoping I didn't mess up my amps over the past 2 years lol Should I be using 40a fuses for my kits rather than 60a just to be extra safe?
