highpsicobra
whats up guys. i have been troubling myself for the past couple days after the wall has been finished up in my truck. ok, ill give you a little backround. 4 15" atomic ELE atomic 5000.1 3 alt. setup, 1 stock 2 iraggi 300amp 2 runs of 1/0 gauge power and ground so 4 total. stock bat up front for regular junk 2 kinetic 2400 1 kinetic 1800 2 arc audio 4080d 3 sets of infinity kappa componets 1 extra set of infiniti kappa tweeters i had a slant box (pics follow below) dont know the exact specs on it, cant remember, and it slammed, well i really wanted a little bit more, figured it should hit louder for what i had, or maybe i just needed more power, 5k watts (6900 exact watts bench tested at 14.5 volts when NOT hot) so i was wanting to add another 5k amp, however the subs are coiled at 2ohms and they would have to be rewound at dual 4 to add an extra amp and make it run right, didn't really feel like sending my subs back to cali and have them rewound. so the first step into making things better was building a wall. picked it up today, not happy, it doesn't slam low at all, its all mid range bass mostly, it does hairtrick and my old box wouldnt really move hair, that was about the only cool thing i got out of it, beside the cool looking facter. it doesnt give you that LOW deep ear peircing hurting sound that my old box gave. so im ready to tear it apart again unless it can be made to hit low??? the builder said the box is i think 4.5 cubic ft and he said that since the subs fire foward, its not going to give you the drop as much as if fired towards the rear? i can understand that. then he said to let the subs break into the box for a week and see how that goes and then he can retune the box if needed. second, the amp gets HOT where its at, it has no circulation like before when it was inside the car where the air could hit it etc etc. so they said they could build some fans in the back of the wall to cool the amp...do you think that would be sufficient. next thing, im afraid because this wall is so huge, that i maybe need more power to push the air since the box i had before was quite a bit smaller and maybe the one amp made it sound like it should since there was less airspace. please please help, i know htere is hella questions, but im trying to get extra advice other than my audio shop. heres the pics of the old setup heres the new setup thanks for all the help and time J
bassl0va
Doesn't look like enough port area, also, whats it tuned to? Should be 32hz. It has to be bad box design, because bigger boxes need less power because they are more efficient. Also, it looks like a really bad place for the amp, especially if there is no cooling fans behind that panel. bassl0va
I'd do subs up, port back, like Steve. That configuration seems to work the best for a non-wall in SUVs. If it's got 4 cubes per woofer and it's not tuned between 30ish and 35ish hz then ask him to change the tuning, but if they don't have 4 cubes each, your kinda screwed. Check back here with the info he gives you though. I'd get another one of the 5k Atomics, they are great amps, very worth keeping. highpsicobra
the hell with messing with this wall. im havint them pull it back out and just put my original box back in. now yes, iw ould be more than happy to add another 5k amp, they are sick and run great. however my subs are dual 2ohm voice coil, so enlighten me on how i would make that combo work i thought to get to a 1ohm load id need 4 dual 4ohm speakers not 4 dual 2ohm. so the next best amp would be the 7k, atleats a couple thousand more watts, what could hurt, and i have heard that it really can put out around 10k if supplied correctly what would be an ideal box for 4 subs fired up with port facing back all this speaker stuff is really new to me, im into racing cars and motors, so big speakers/amps are all new really. how do you TUNE to 34hz, is that a way with the adjustments on the amp and headunit im assuming? or is it because of how the box is built. thanks for the help! highpsicobra
are those two seperate boxes? Top and bottom? it looks like only the top part is ported and I cant see a way that they are one really. i would imagine one big contraption, the audio shop is not dumb, the box was tuned to 40hz so thats why it hits higher, i played with the amp settings today and got it to hit lower, they didn't mess with anything on the amp or head unit becasue as soon as it was done i wanted to pick it up to go downtown, so im going to take it back up there and let them play with it a little more and put a bigger amp up to it, if i can get 14.4v stable ill pull 10k rms out of the atomic 7000.1d heres a little snap he sent me when it wsa being built...i havn't got to look at it myself when the speakers were out, but i will be taking them out soon to see what it looks like back there. we are going to run AC tubes from the headliner to the back right on top and sides of the amp to keep it cool back there, that will help TREMENDOUSLY thanks again for the help, ill keep ya updated. much respect
Boon
I seriously can't tell if it's a ported half and a sealed half. I'm worried it is indeed 2 seperate boxes. Either way the box looks kinda ultra-super-terribad, to me at least. IMO should have been a flat wall with a floor-to-ceiling port on the drivers side. Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
