OcBish
Ok so im not the smartest man on earth , so im here to learn... I seen all the time ppl talking about under powering can cause damage.. Which in a since can be very true...Tho whats the difference in under powering the sub and have the right amount of power but leaving the bass knob down??? All in all its still being under powered.. right? cheese20323
That is a myth when you barely have your stereo on the sub is not recieving X ammount of watts. Probably only like 50-100 Quote 92 Accord Build
IH8PunkRok
you cannot hurt a sub by under powering it. ever. it is clipping that leads to killing a sub and most of the time clipping is caused because the amps being used do not make enough power for the sub, so the user turns the amp beyond the point of clipping without knowing it. IH8PunkRok
So that means if the amp does not move your sub you then turn the gain up to max which then the amp clips. Its then called under powered. Get a bigger amp turn the gain down get a better stronger sound plus long life for your subs. no its called clipping. in reality it is making a lot more power than it is rated for but it is nasty dirty power. theoretical example. 1000 watt amp 1000 watt sub. turn gains up way too high and now you have 2700 watts going to the sub. on top of the grossly overpowering, the sub now has to deal with square waves which limit the cooling capabilities of the sub. ie burnt sub. OcBish
Thanks for the fast responses... I kinda figured it was the clipping that caused the issue, but everyone seems to toss the under powering thing out there.. Me personally i dont have that problem, i usually have more power then needed.. AKBass
Keep this in mind a bass knob is only a remote gain control its garbage. Set your gain and leave it. Not exactly its a remote gain that has a certain frequency with a certain slope its adding gain at a certain point i.e. RF is 43 HZ with i think a 12 db slope Quote Current Ford F350 Alpine IVA-W505 2x Diamond s600 1x Diamond S400 2x RF T1500-1BD 1x RF T600-4 2x AA Havoc 12" DC Power 230XP 1/0 throughout Up Next 95 2dr Tahoe Head Unit= Alpine IVA-W505 Components= 2 Diamond S400, 2 Diamond S500, 2 Diamond S600 Woofers= 2 10" Diamond Hex, 2 12" Diamond D9 Amps= 3 RF T1000-4 Processor= 2 RF 3sixty.2 Subs= 4 18" AA Mayhem Amps 4 RF T2500-1 BDCP 7 XS Power D3100 3 DC Power 270+
herbykw
Im confused on how so many people can think that under powering can damage subs. Cause if this was true every time you turn the volume down it would blow your subs right?
