Psyched About New Mag

Yay for XBL^2 in new Mags & smaller boxes.

Some of this was already posted on audiojunkies.com, but I'm posting it here because this is SI's forum and those who don't visit audiojunkies need to know about our news. All of our reps know this info, and they have kept their mouths shut because I asked them to. But now they can divulge anything they want (within reason).

Ok, well I guess I should get the biggest thing out of the way and say that the new Mag is going to be 5.5" deep. I have been thinking about what I, and our customers, really want out of a Mag.

I'm putting the motor inside a completely new basket on the new Mag's to reduce mounting depth to 5.5". I'm also using XBL^2 to get a super-flat BL curve and maintain our T/S's over the entire band of usable Xmax, which will make the driver sound better than before. I'm also copper plating the pole piece and then diamond CNC machining down the pole to reduce inductance while not loosing any BL (a sleeve over the pole has an air gap which reduces BL). A copper-coated pole piece reduces inductance even further (when I say 'even further' I mean that the inductance was lowered a LOT just because of XBL^2). The new inductance is roughly 1/3 of the current Mag.

Power handling will be 1000 watts in our specified enclosures. Sealed enclosure volume will be 0.8 cubes to 1.0 cubes. Ported enclosure alignments will be in the 1.5 cube area.

And the new BM's are going to be 3.5" deep for a 12" model. :) Once again, putting the motor inside the basket.

no thanks on the btl offer.

Absolutely correct. You wont ever catch me running a BTL, as much as I like output I need my bass to blend in with the rest of my setup not mud it out :).

there you go hittin that crack rock again.....who says a BTL cant sound great? I for one think they can. My system in the Hoe is geared towards output while still sounding good but in the right application it can go either way. Maybe you and your boy Accordman should take a trip up to chickens house one day and get a listen to the towers i built for him and then tell me the BTL doesnt sound good or "mudds out".....they actually sound amazing but it isnt just subs its a complete system with thought put into everything.

If you think a BTL sounds like mud, then you heard someones SYSTEM that sounded like mud not just the sub. Maybe their box sucked or it was wrong for the car.

how much experience do you have with the BTL to make a statement like that? None im pretty sure.

ive listened to plenty. probably not as many as you, as i dont have 8 in one vehicle or 4 in another or make towers out of them.

But as i told another member here, they DONT sound as good as a mag or XXX imo.

I mean lets throw all preferences aside, if a BTL/MT/DD SPL only sub is THAT great sounding, why isnt everyone running them. rather then spending more on other subs that "dont sound any better" because in another forum members post...theres no such thing as a SPL or SQ sub all subs are the same.

i have heard btls before. they require a lot of power to get them to sound good, at lower volumes they dont perform well. compared to the mag they sound like arse IMO...

i dont need that much output, I for one enjoy my hearing :) i'll pass on that chickens home towers offer.

you can listen to your BTLs all you want they sound good to you, but I wont ever use one for my personal use, so please dont try to convince me to get one.

anyways this thread isnt about how good your BTLs sound, its about updates on the new Mag lets stay on track.

not all BTL's are SPL "only".....dont forget that part. You have a choice with the options and not all have 3 slugs, no cooling, tight gap 5 spiders and need 3k to get moving. You can CERTAINLY put a BTL into a SQ situation but you probably want to use the right one in the right box in the right install with the rest of the system dialed in as well.

ive heard a few people tell me they were completely dissapointed in the new XXX sub and i personally was never that impressed with the new OR old ones......but i wont blame the sub since the installs they were in were not exactly that great. Anyone can take a good sub and make it sound bad and some can make a bad, flea market sub sound good.....
