Hotdog Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 Well I blew one of my 15's at the last DB Drag event so today I got a chance to tear into the sub woofer to see what kind of damage I inflicted. The Cone is still in good shape as with the dust cap and it came off completely clean. So I cut through the surround and the spider and cut the tinsel leads right at the terminals. I then pull the cone and all still attached and the freaking coil completely seperated and unraveled inside the gap of the motor. Check this out... Copper at the bottom of the gap. and about 2 hours later... So now I just need to get it re-coned... got a couple more RFR2215's coming so I can run 4 15's. Forevrbumpn Posted June 27, 2010 Report Posted June 27, 2010 I hate cleaning those out, hook tools, and needs nose pliers, and acetone and 20m - hr of time I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy.

But yes I use a hook tool kinda like a dentist scraper and needle nose pliers. Blew the gap out with compressed air then used some masking tape over laminated card to get more out. Got more work to do on it to get it completely clean though. Took the basket off so I can get that cleaned out without worrying about getting more dirt or debris in the gap on the motor. I might be going with 5 15's below the window line.. I checked the specks and the displacement and it can be done. Another box will be started in August.
