pauleqer
what do you guys think is better, a foam or a rubber?? or does it not matter? i would think that rubber would be a little more durable but im not an expert.
getmoney
certain kinds of foam surround are good(the treated kind) cause its lighter but in alot of extreme weather conditions it can dry rot
E a r t h
Rubber is better for extreme temperatures ie.[ hot & cold ] Foam seems to have a stiffness ratio to it helping to resist deflection to the cone ideal for SPL style subs. For me I like the rubber for my components, and foam for subs.Rubber tends to be a little more quiet mechanically. I can tell the differences between the two, some people cant.So basically it's a matter of opinion,to each his own these are my views
Forevrbumpn
rubber is more durable and will last longer, especially in sun light or heat, foam can be pretty rugged, but with foam you almost always gain efficiency I have a ritual called "terminator". I crouch in the shower in the "naked terminator" pose. With eyes closed I crouch for a minute and visualize either Arnie or the guy from the 2nd movie. I then start to hum the T2 theme. Slowly I rise to a standing position and open my eyes. It helps me get through my day. The only problem is if the shower curtain sticks to my terminator leg. It sorta ruins the fantasy. Chris
To me, I favor foam over rubber just because like Foreverbumpn said, you almost always gain efficiency. Foam picks up the lows a lot nicer IMO, & since it isn't so stiff, that's where the efficiency comes from. 4 15" FI Q D2's in 12 cubes tuned to 32hz 1- T1000.1bd's 3 Maxx 29 deep cycles 4 runs of 1/0 gauge -Big 3 -Trunk sealed off from the cabin Custom 15.8 dual-volt switching MLA module All in a CAR. Dale
also, foam is more sensitive to fumes from chemicals. if you have caulk curing in a box and drop a foam sub in, chances are it'll be eaten away. other than that the only tangible advantage that rubber has over foam (that i can think of), is longevity. Chris
Not to mention if you slip with the screwdriver while mounting your sub, which do ya think will survive with only a scratch instead of gaping wound? 4 15" FI Q D2's in 12 cubes tuned to 32hz 1- T1000.1bd's 3 Maxx 29 deep cycles 4 runs of 1/0 gauge -Big 3 -Trunk sealed off from the cabin Custom 15.8 dual-volt switching MLA module All in a CAR.
