system expansion question

hey guys!

So I got my system up and running, ordered a PAC ground loop isolator which got rid of the alternator whine, etc. and am pretty happy. What I am wondering is; my amp is a clarion 1550RMS at 2 ohm, if I add a third sub (they are JBL GTO1214D, so dual 2 ohm) and wire the three to the amp at 3 ohm load, how much spl extra can I expect? (approximate gains) and would it be a noticeable difference? the subs are 350RMS each but JBL's are usually underrated. I would like to get the full usage out of my amp and add more extreme bass. anyone see issues with this kind of setup? of course i'd have to build a new box, and I would face it inwards toward the cabin and seal it off between cabin and trunk. thanks guys.

I'm sure you would notice some kind of difference. Can't really say how much of a difference though.

Well I could get a third sub of the same kind for about $100 would it be a worthwhile purchase?

Actually I believe it would after further research. More cone area will give more air movement. About 1/3 more to be exact...Thanks for nothing anyways. If you have reasoning behind it then talk. If not, ignore the thread and go respond to another one.

oké...(i just didn't have enough time at the time i posted that comment.

You add 50% extra cone area, but the power drops by i don't know how much.(prolly 300-500 watts less)

Are you going to build a new box?

If so, the cost goes up, if u don't the subs won't have enough airspace.

Building a box costs about 50 bux maybe even more depends on how good you want it to be.

So that 150 dollars already, and u probably go up about 1.5 or at MAX 2 Db's.(it will probably closer to 1db.)

And a dB difference in sound is inaudible.

And 150 bux for 1 more db isn't really worth it.(maybe build a better box for you're 2 woofers right now.)

So there will be a difference in Db's but u will never hear it.

U are better off buying other subs.(and maybe sell these. )

Aah,now there's a better answer. I was thinking of upgrading to some jbl 12" GTI MKII's in their place but then i'd have to change my mono amp too etc and the cost is huge. Power drop isn't an issue as my amp is already overpowering these 2 subs. I thought that the increase in air movement by adding the 3rd sub would be more than 1or2 db's though... And also building a new box facing into the cabin with proper dimensions and sealed between cabin and trunk. But for now maybe I'll just do the new box for my 2 subs then upgrade them later on...

yeah fire them forward sealed off from the trunk the new box will net you better gains than a third sub
