does low quality music kill your speakers like clipping?

How can you hardly notice a low bit rate? Especially 90kb/s, that sounds so hideously bad.

Anyway I'm pretty sure it won't kill anything as long as it isn't clipped. It will just sound like crap.

low grade speakers. i have 1 album at 96 and his flow is amazing so thats why i keep it and 1 piano song from youtube its 68 on my laptop its soothing, but in my car its like a radio with no reception lol. but so if you take a clipped song and either compress or lower the level so that it isnt apparent in WMP anymore does that mean it is gone or what?

You guys should use a program called Platinum Note. kinda pricey $98 but it was worth it to me as i could tell a drastic difference. It works really well for turning your mp3's into high quality sounds, supposedly they say it makes them accoustically perfect, take it how you want. don't mean to sound like an advert but when i tried it, i fell in love with it. I converted all my 128kb mp3's and it sounds soooo much cleaner in my car. Some of my rock music that didn't put out much bass before, now puts out decent levels. It fixes clipped peaks, volume, pitch and adjusts dynamics then outputs it to a 320kbps mp3 but can be changed to other. I'll post a quick copy/paste for anyone interested.

As an lesser alternative, there is a freeware app called "MP3Gain" that i used to use, it just basically takes all your MP3's and makes them the same "loudness" or volume level so you don't have to turn up/down the volume all the time like i had to sometimes.

Platinum Notes "heals" your music by analyzing MP3 and WAV files and correcting areas that need improvement. The goal of Platinum Notes is to give you the cleanest sound on any sound system.

Platinum Notes does not delete your existing music files. For every song, Platinum Notes will create a new 320Kbit MP3 or WAV file based on your preference after applying the "healing" filters.Analyze Volume

Platinum Notes detects the volume of each songs to see if it needs adjustment. The best average volume for a song is -13 decibels. After your song is "healed", Platinum Notes sets the final average volume at -13 decibels. Your new song will have the same average volume as the rest of your music collection -- no more reaching for the volume knob

Analyze Pitch

In order for your music to sound perfect, it has to be precisely on-key. Many songs are detuned at some point in the recording process. Platinum Notes detects the pitch of your song to see if the pitch needs adjustment.

Analyze Clipped Peaks

Clipping occurs when the song is recorded too loud. Platinum Notes detects all clipped peaks.

Adjust The Dynamics

Platinum Notes uses premium-quality iZotope Multi-band Compressors and Expanders to create perfect dynamics.

Dynamics describe the difference between the loud and the quiet parts of your music. Songs with "good dynamics" have an audible difference between loud and quiet parts.

Platinum Notes can fix dynamics in songs that had the daylights squeezed out of them in post-production. Platinum Notes will automatically adjust your dynamics to keep your loud parts loud, and quiet parts quiet.

Here is the sound wave illustrating bad dynamics:

Fix Clipped Peaks

This is when the "healing" process begins.

Here is the original sound wave with clipped peaks circled

There may be something better out there, never tried but i never realized how bad regular 128kbps mp3 songs were, though if you need the space then obviously this isnt for you. my HU has a usb port so i keep all mine on an 8gig usb which makes it nice.

No. Low quality cannot hurt your speakers as long as it's not clipped. Low quality is easier for your speakers to play.

easier really?! not trying to say your wrong in any way but could you explain some science behind that?

High quality sound waves are more defined. They use more power to process everything. It's kind of like how a low quality video can load faster than HD one.

It would make it easier to play because the speakers don't have to play as high. They lower the bit rate the less high frequencies they have to play. But truthfully I don't think that the speakers really care. It may make the processor happy cause it doesn't have to decode as much data, but I'm sure it won't care either. High quality > Low quality. Always.

wow

lol

long story short, search 160-320kbps if possible, anything lower is a waste of our time and money

there is no audible difference in anything higher than 192kbps IMO, unless u have 1000s of watts of mids and highs u just cannot dicern the difference between a warm g note and a hot g note and a empty cold g... shit doesnt exist because every car is different, shape affects all and there will never be a correct answer, only acceptable options

to the OP, would u rather play an atrac or cd@320kbps...? thats the difference u are referring to
