same brand systems?

When i was considering upgrading my subs to JLw6v2's, an aquaintance told me i had a ghetto system cause all my components are different brands. Saying how same brand matching subs and amp..etc would sound much better. true?

Memphis 6.5's

Kicker sub

Pioneer HU

JL amp for highs

MTX 1000 watt amp for subs

So i started wondering if i should gradually start upgrading to all the same brand for everything, Since my most pricey and favorite Component is my MTX Elite amp, figured thats probably the brand i'd stick to meaning i'm stuck to MTX thunder subs...cheaper but have no clue how good they sound compared to a W6 like i was wanting. I'm sure the mtx 6.5's probably sound just as good as my Memphis's but could be years till i bother to change those.

So is my system ghetto? should i probably work my upgrades to a particular brand? will it really make a sound difference or is it just the idea in peoples heads of having mixed brands sound cluttery maybe?

no it is not ghetto. sure MTX might make subs to match the amp you have but what will sound best in the end depends on the box you make/buy (hopefully you make it yourself). there is no law that says all your equipment must be the same brand. look wise for shows/comps it would be important and there are people that prefer to match maybe to make troubleshooting easy you just gotta call one guy or warranty wise just 1 company. i had kicker sub, kenwood sub amp, jbl 4 channel, front infinity 6.5s, rear eclipse 6 x 9s, JVC head unit, and scosche wiring for my last setup

Your friend is an idiot. Brand matching does nothing for performance of products used. Sometimes brands will make matching parts ie:amps made with the right amount of power for a performance lateral product, but that is not what your friend is talking about.

Having different brand products can allow for a more custom, performance driven system. You take the right sub for your ears with an amp that matches it (performance, not brand). I personally have a pioneer headunit, kickers in the doors, run off of a kicker 250.2, three FIs powered by three RF amps.

Sometimes, there is beauty in uniformity, but not being uniform does not make it ghetto.

tell your acquaintance "if you want me to run all one brand then buy it for me" dont listen to him anymore. i myself dont have 2 different products in my car that are the same brand. i run Knukonceptz wire, DC woofers, CDT and MB Quart highs, Fosgate highs amp, Kenwood headunit, and Hifonics woofer amp...all different brands and it sounds fine to me lol

ah, cool thanks guys. not that i normally care much what others think, except when it comes to something i invest a lot of time and money on, i didnt want others to think anything negative of it. i wasnt for sure how many people actually used much mixed brands. never even thought about it before till he mentioned that, guess he's just an idiot then.

He has an OEM Infinity system anyway, although i have to admit, it actually sounds really nice for an OEM, it doesnt thump or anything but SQ wise it actually sounded pretty good. I was impressed with what their doing with audio in new cars these days, had nice front stage sound but bass still distorts if you really push it.
