Box Design & Calc help

Recommended Posts

I need some help with building a ported box for my 2 15's. I don't have any experience building ported boxes so I don't want to go out and spend good money on MDF just to fuck it up, that's why I came here. What I DO know is that the subs must be facing upwards due to lack of space for height. What I DON'T know is whether or not the port should be facing up as well, and even if the idea I have for the box design will work.

The subs are RE SRx 15's, and RE suggests 3.0 CF per sub ported.

My MAX dimensions are

Height - 12"

Width - 37"

Length - 34"

This is going in the back of a 92 corolla, so I don't have much space to go upwards. (Hence the 12" height")

Here's what I tried to come up with in the Torres Calc

BOXTUNE.jpg

I'm pretty sure I went wrong somewhere when doing the port dimensions, cause I'm pretty sure 3 inches for port length is too small to be 35 hz lol

And here is what I am visualizing for the box itself. (My first time ever using sketchup, no tutorials or anything)

I hope some of you here are willing to help me with this, I really don't want to take my car to the local shop.

If anything is way off or extremely wrong, please feel free to tell me. I want to get this done right.

Thanks!

First thing I saw, you have waaaaayyyy too little port area, try to keep it within the range...

Ok thanks man! I went ahead and tweaked the port dimensions a little bit and got something within range...hopefully this is a little better. I know knowthing about ported enclosures.

With new Port area, only difference is I don't have the port facing up.

If someone who is good with sketchup would be willing to make an image, that would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

No problem....the port area is good there, but now your "net" volume seems too small for two 15's...play with it a little bit more, maybe with minimum port area in the range will give you enough volume for the two subs..

hey man i've seen your vids on youtube and i think you'd be better off getting a 3rd srx 15 and going sealed because these subs work well with a good amount of port area and you don't have enough space to get the right amount of port area for them to slam but if you went with 3 of them sealed you would give each sub 2 cubes of space after displacement and that would sound awesome and would probably get just as loud as 2 of them ported but if you wanna go ported would do something like this.

untitled-1.jpg

and yes the total displacement of the 2 subs is 0.32 i looked at the specs on the site. and if you can invert the 2 subs you will get lower tuning and more airspace so if you can try and do that

I think Memphisbasshead is right, I really don't have enough space for two ported unless they go in 5 cubes which is too small. I played around with the calc last night and couldn't get anything spot on. Any seconds on the 3 15's sealed?
