roger1978 Posted September 4, 2010 Author Report Posted September 4, 2010 I THINK THERES YOUR PROBLEM. running it at that low of a ohm must have pulled some mad current.. tht amp should due a .5ohm load with no problems atleast for a burp if anything and yeah my truck is running alot of power right now to keep 15 volts to my amp my 300 amp alt does a great job current spl 156.9 @ 40htz usaci mod 2001-4000 155.5 at 40htz http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/102676-rogers-chevy/page__p__1425005__fromsearch__1#entry1425005
TeamHT Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 300 amp alternator and 4 batteries......to run over 10000 watts rms?!? i run 12000 watts rms to the subs with triple 270 amp alternators and 6 d3100s.... just does not sound like it is ANYWHERE near enough to supply the current needed to run that amp safely at .5 an ohm. not to mention...youre comparing the resting voltage of your electrical when no current is being drawn. of course it can sit at high 14s....until the amp turns on. like it did now. and of course once the amp was on i can see the voltage dipping REALLY low. and if it was a refurb i wouldnt have tried running it to .5 an ohm off the bat. Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
toad559 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 ok, i have experience with this amp, great amp. 1 problem is that in order to hook up the power and ground u would have to turn it on its back to unscrew the lil plate to hook up all the wires. some people wire it backward cus they forgot that its upside down now. happen to my buddy but i fix it b4 i turned it on. but if your certant you had it correct. it was probably just a bad amp. was it new? or bought 2nd hand/ and that amp wil do .5 easy daily on music with that electrical set up you have. i had mines @.5 on 2 dc lv5 15' and it worked great. with a mm200alt, 2 d3100 and ad2700. 2 run of shok 1/0 but only 1 was fused cus i didnt have a fuse bolck. and it did fine all day. current draw is okay for that amp pretty good. way better than my current hifonic galiath. that pos draws a ton more and makes less power. and you wont see 10k out of that in a 12v setup. more like 6k. if you got it bnib, thay have a year warranty i believe and they do a great job fixing it.and get it back to you in a month or so. p.s my voltage with this amp stayed above 14.2 while drivin and bumbin. idle it can still handle good mount of demo until i reach 12v. but dramastic difference from 12 to 14. so if you can run it at 16, it be real nice. Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?
toad559 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 yo, it will not do close to 10 on a 12v setup and on music and daily box. not knowing his specs and all butt im sure he nor i will see that much watts. music current draw is way less than company spec. idk if hes out there to burp it. but i personally used it in my truck with less electrical and it did fine. still pulled a 151.4 with a box tubed at 30hz. never clamp it but im sure i aint seeing anything over 6k. agian....this amp is rated at 16v. he has enough electrical. its another problem. and direct swap the xxx was way better than the hifonic on my electrical. and since op said alot of things burnt up. something is diffinantly wrong with it prior to his ownership Fresno, Cali 559
TeamHT Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 i would say you have a point...if he was wired at 1 ohm. but .5 an ohm and in my opinion no ability to supply the current draw. theres a huge difference running lower voltage at 1 ohm than at .5 ohm Tell me...does this smell like chloroform to you?

toad559 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 and always ohm rise. i believe the amp was bad. his voltage is fine at 14.9. ive seen the one i had go as low as 11.6v in my inlaws car. warned him about it. he abused it for a week and it blew. soundstream fixed it out of warranty and i plugged it in my truck at .5 and slammed it hard. worked great. they can take buse. plus their power input terminals are like oversize oo2 wires or something. cus 5250strand of shok in it was pencil dickin it. qaulity terminals and rca plugs lol Fresno, Cali 559
thehoe92 Posted September 4, 2010 Report Posted September 4, 2010 considering those amps don't even do rated power at 14.4v I would say a 300 amp alt and 4 group 31's should be sufficient to where there isn't horrible voltage drop .5 puts a lot of stress on an amp no matter how good your electrical is if the amp turned on and started playing then obviously you didn't hook it up backwards but it could be possible the ohm load dropped below .5 and completely fucked you over from there send your amp to AutoSound in Kentucky they fixed my PowerBass 4k when I blew it amp works great now and sorry about your luck Wouldnt be thehoe92 without teh purple
