cyoung1993
hello, my name is cory, im a 17 year old from ontario, canada. i love car audio and have for a long time. i install all my freinds systems but i have never actually built my own box. im doing my first build and plan to enter the SOTM contest. i guess im using this post to introduce myself, and to get help. i work a part time job after school soo its goin to take a while to finish this build. like i said, ive never built my own box. i plan on takin out the back seat of my ext. cab chevy truck and walling it off top to bottom. im goin to run 2 18 inch SSA XCON subwoofers off 2 Power Accoustik STAX 5500/1D amplifiers. i dont know how to calculate internal demensions and stuff and i dont know how to figure out how to tune it to certain hertz. i always just buy box's but i want to do this one on my own. if anyone has ideas on what i should tune the box to, and how to do it, id greatly apreciate the help. i dont plan on doing a kerf'ed port because im not expierenced at building box's yet. eventually im goin to do custom door panels with 2 6.5 components in each door. and on the top half of the wall there is goin to be 4 6x9 speakers. plan on running 2 extra batteries(witch i dont know how to do either).. and a bigger alt if i have to. but yeah. sorry for gettin a lil distracted here. but if anyone can help me design this box. or kinda tell me how to. it wil be greatly appreciated Thanks, Cory
mikeg321
Download the box calculator in the first post http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/38791-torres-box-tuning-calculator-updated-310/ play around with the dimensions of the box and port until you get the volume and tuning you want. I'm not familiar with those subs but 18s are probably going to need 5 cubes each minimum. Depending on the music you listen to 32-36hz would be good for tuning. And aim for 12-16sq inches of port per cubic foot. cyoung1993
i listen to rap, and songs with tons of bass, i love my bass, so what would be a good htz for rap/heavy bass music. here are the specs from the SSA website: •Ported: 6.0 - 6.5 cu.ft. @ 26-33hz •Ported: 7.25 - 7.75 cu.ft. @ 26-33hz opt. i dont know really anything about building box's. soo if anyone with expierence, please tell me what would be a good cu.ft at a certain hz for 2 of these 18inch SSA XCON subwoofers. Thanks
mikeg321
15cu.ft. net tuned to 32hz. And I don't think those PA amps will do rated power you might want to spend a litte more and get better amps. cyoung1993
i know they wont do rated power, wattage rms on the XCONS are 1750. im thinkin run them at 2 ohms.. soo the amp will be puttin out 2500 fake watts.. i figure it should still be over the rms and will be okay. i can even buy the 1 ohm xcons and run the amp at 1 ohm, soo it will be puttin out 3200 watts (so it says) i just dont want to push it too hard.. and thanks for the box specs
Boon
I'm not entirely certain a wall is a great idea for someone that has never built a box before. But hey, props for being ambitious. Quote 10.x volts fo' life!
mikeg321
No problem. Try to get a couple more opinions before you build anything tho. I was just going by the manufactures suggested specs, if your lucky you might find someone who runs those subs and knows what size box/tuning performs best. Good luck with your build Quote 4 fully loaded Fi sp4 15's 2 Crescendo bc5500s Crescendo c1100.4 6 focal mids Vifa tweets 5 XS Power d3100's Pioneer avh-p4200dvd All crammed into a mustang. http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/topic/150569-mikeg321s-fi-nendo-mustang-getting-walled-videos-page-4/

cyoung1993
thanks for your guys help.. and yes maybe a wall isnt the BEST idea for me, but maybe u guys will liek this.. i could build the box.. and i beleive u call it a double baffle when u put 2 pieces of wood on the front.. well i could build the box, and then have the second piece using that as the wall.. and then on the top part like i siad id run the 4 6x9 speakers on the top part... i dont know if you know what i mean, i could possible draw something out on paint to show you. but yes i was going to run 2 PA STAX 5500/1D amps.. one per sub, running each at 1 ohm, i have a 12 inch audiobahn immortal series runnin off the STAX 5500 right now. so i was just gonna do the samae with the 18, get another amp, do it to the other.. and was going to run it like that????? any ideas or comments? Thanks, Cory
