cmegorm250
so how do you measure db's? how much louder is a system that does 140 and one that does 150 for example?
HHR Ed
A dB meter is usually the tool of choice. skittlesRgood
Going from 140 to 150 is about 9 times as loud. what?? 3 db is twice the acoustic level... 10/3 = 3.3. so its a little over 3 times as loud. HHR Ed
Guys, Decibels is a logorithmic scale. +3dB represents a doubling of the acoustic intensity. zerosktr111
Guys, the dB scale is Logarithmic with a base of 10 so for every 10db increase there is a 10x in pressure...This is NOT linear though therefore a 5db increase does NOT signify a 5x increase in SPL. It would actually be a 3.16x increase in SPL. HHR Ed
Now here is a fun example. +10 dB represents an increase in acoustic intensity by 10 times. And in 2005, I competed at dB Drag Racing Wold Finals in Extreme 5+ Against Scott Owens and Edge Audio's Pioneer Truck. This was the loudest truck in the world and became the first to hit 180 dB. In 2005 He beat me by 30dB. So how many times louder was he than I was? HA! told u skittles! thnx ed . the louder u are the closer the comparison tho, bcuz a sound wave starts to distort & turn into a shockwave =]. (183 is 2x as loud as 180)
