zachhern1 Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I've been thinking about getting a set of ID horns but haven't really seen any feedback on them. Is anyone running them and if so which 1's are you running and how do you like them?
Boon Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 CD1s or whatever they are, sound awesome, take bugger all power to do what they need to, not 'loud' like regular speakers though. Absolute bitch to install, especially if you use the large-body horns. 10.x volts fo' life!
zachhern1 Posted October 11, 2010 Author Report Posted October 11, 2010 ok awesome I was thinking about using mini horns since the large bodies look massive for under the dash. these were the ones I were thinking.... http://www.woofersetc.com/p5005/CD1PRO--Image-Dynamics-Ultra-Compact-Competition-HLCD-Speaker-System.htm
Boon Posted October 11, 2010 Report Posted October 11, 2010 I'm pretty sure they're still like 2ft long. Considering it sounds like you just want to build your car for screaming mids/highs, I would look elsewhere. These aren't that kind of horn. Mixing them with other drivers playing the same frequency range is basically sacrilege. They're meant to be installed with nothing but a midbass driver. 10.x volts fo' life!
JMZNeal Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 i have a set of the CD1 MH's and they are 8ohm... i have them run on a RF t400.4 bridged so i'd say there seeing about 50-60 watts rms each and they are super loud. very pitchy though like PA loud horns but with a good eq you can take that peak out and get them sounding really clean and even. I'm using a RF 360.2 and got them high passed at like 2.5k or 3k... had them down to 1.5k but decided to let the mids do a little more work. i have a set of XS 6x9s and cx 6.5s in my doors and they almost equal them. planning on putting a bigger amp on the horns though so when i put two more sets of 6.5's behind the seat they will even back out. very good horns. great efficiency. good sound if you have an eq. needs big amp since 8ohm though. oh and the body is the same length but can be cut shorter.. the waveguide is narrower and shorter though so it's easier to mount them under your dash... and mount them plumb and square with the dash to get good imaging. JVC AVX-44 and 360.2 Subs: 2 RF T1 12s 1ohm mono off a RF T1500bdcp 80hz \/ in a 2.3cube 45hz slot port Mids: 2 O2 8's off a Punch 550.2 behind seat, 2 Image Cxs 6.5's and 2 ID XS 6x9s 80-3khz in doors on a T600.2 Highs: 2 ID CD.1 MH HLCD 8ohm off a RF 400.4 3khz /\
Boon Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Best bet is to get a fairly hefty 4 channel or 2 2 channels and bridge them. At least that way you're getting 4 ohm power from each channel. At the same time, they only need/take about 50w to do their job. Adding more power won't do diddly except burn up those expensive little coils - at least that's my understanding of it. 10.x volts fo' life!

I'm not really planning on building for screaming mids/highs but I'd really like to have something to keep up with my 2 18s if I want to just jam to some music. I was thinking pro audio a while back but I did not like the sound of pa horns.
zachhern1 Posted October 12, 2010 Author Report Posted October 12, 2010 as for the amp I would run them off would be a rf 600.2
jbondox Posted October 13, 2010 Report Posted October 13, 2010 whoever said the ID horns weren't loud, never ran them... I had a pair and you could hear it from over a quarter mile away while in tailgate mode CLEARLY also... They need EQ'ing, a 31 band for the left and right paired with a midbass would be awesome.
