Difference in TermLab from 2001 to now?

This is a question for anyone that still competes.

Last time I competed in DB drag was in 2001-2002.

Has there been any changes in the TermLab software or the Mic's being used since then?

I am asking because I was hitting 147.6 with 2 12's and 1800 watts back then.

I would like to hit 150+ with the new system I am planning. However the sub section of the new system will be based on 2 15's.

I just need to know if I need to throw more power at this to hit the #'s I want to hit.

I'm pretty sure the mics changed when it went from Termlab.NET to Termlab USB. 3dB down was the number I heard thrown around a bit but I wasn't really involved in the scene back then.

150+ from a pure numbers setup on the new termlab with 2 decent 15s will probably take at least 2000w, and that's with a really, really good box and a better-than-average vehicle.

I would say 3kw and a reasonable vehicle wouldn't be unrealistic, although 4kw+ is kinda preferable.

If you want to do it musically, or below ~50hz, allow 5kw+ and a couple of damn solid subs.

.net was a sensor based system, and is still used. the db drag world finals tower runs on a .net system. the difference with the .net system was that it runs on a ribbon cable to an express card slot, and supports 4 sensors. i had one up until a few years ago.

150's on the new TL with 2 15's is doeable in almost any application with 2k on burp. The subs and enclosure will highly decide whether you hit your mark.

Yes I want it Musical... and it was back then too...However all we did back then for DB drag was burp it for the meter.

Btw... it is going in a trunk car, Subs Backwards pointing toward the rear of the car was a +6db gain on the meter. For some reason this car has always been louder (both to the ear and the meter) with this configuration.

I haven't decided on subs yet. I am stuck between the Ascendant Audio Havoc 15's in a sealed box or the FI Audio Q15 in a sealed box.

I also haven't decided on if I want to do a ported setup this time. My musical tastes are all over the board.

I agree... as far as what I have listened to. Sealed is almost always more musical. (at least to me) :-)

Musically, sealed over ported, yes. Trying to hit 150 with 2 15"s in a trunk car with a sealed box, I guess it's possible, but probably not unless you have at least 4000+ watts.

When they changed the metering system in 2003-2004, I found (just a personal observation, not to be confused with an actual study) the number difference really depended on your setup. A lot of people were noticing a ~3dB drop on the new system, where others (such as myself, running a single 15, ported in a hatchback) were hitting very similar numbers on both systems.
