Spitfire2k6 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 OK I have got myself very confused over this one so maybe someone can shed some light on he situation for me. When I turn the Ignition on in my car (not engine) my amp is coming on fine with no problem, but when I turn the engine on the amp goes into protect... Now occasionally when I'm driving the amp will come on for anything from 2 seconds to the full journey but id say 90% of the time the engine is on the amp will be in protect. I have used this exact same wiring on 4 other amps and it has worked perfectly every time including another of the exact same model. Any ideas anyone? Amp - Kicker 200.4 Power - 4ga from battery on 80A fuse reading 14+V on Meter Ground - 4Ga onto bare metal chassis point Remote - from HU 12+V Quote Live life to the full... Then TURN THAT BITCH UP!
Sanitarium Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 get a DMM and check the remote wire voltage and supply voltage. Also try unhooking the RCA wires before cranking the engine. Try and narrow down where this is coming from. Quote
n8ball2013 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 isolate it. if you dont have a dmm you are really going to pull your hair out. id suspect the remote lead is funky. If everything checks out you might ahve a bad amp. somethign loose on teh board or what not Quote THERE IS NO BUILD LOG! 1998 Chevy Silverado ext cab Alpine CDA-9887 4 Team Fi 15s 2 Ampere Audio TFE 8.0 2 Ampere Audio 150.4 3 Digital Designs CS6.5 component sets Dual Mechman 370XP Elite alternators inbound! 8 XS Power d3400 6 XS power d680 Second Skin Stinger Tsunami Wiring Sky High A Real Voltmeter not a piece of shit stinger.

I hope its not the amp just got it , reading 14+V on power and 12+V on remote, took out the remote and tried a bridge from the power input same problem. as for the speakers i still have to try that Quote Live life to the full... n8ball2013 Posted October 27, 2010 Report Posted October 27, 2010 well you just proved you are getting power to it. You've got a bad something somewhere. problem with RCAs unhooked rules out the head unit and RCAs as a cause. if it protects iwth the speakers unhooked it leaves the amp. You can double check all fuses as well. You may have a loose speaker lead that is grounding out. That might explain why you get sound every once in a while. But if it protects iwth nothing hooked up thats not the case.
