My old ladys dad builds custom cabinets for a living and gets some free wood here and there. :D plus he has like 6 of every tool you could think of.

Most people use it because it's relatively cheap, and durable birtch is better but more expensive and alot less fun to work with.

better is relative to what your talking about.

ive never had a MDF box fail ever, so dont need to pay more for stronger. Also the people who say it "sounds better" are full of shit too

i honestly, really hate it when people say this... you have no idea what your talking about. there are many many types of plywood. it isnt some cheap, crap. i've got some 1/2" apple ply thats a good deal stronger and WAY lighter than 3/4 mdf. cost about $100 a sheet. but thats still plywood...

hmm.. multiple layers of wood or sawdust and glue smashed together...

why do we use MDF? because its the cheapest acceptable material.
