Was going fine until a week ago when I heard some belt whine when car starter. I couldn't figure out where it was coming from so I took it to the auto store and long and behold they found the bracket snapped. Its had the same tension since july, so it shouldnt have been from overtightening.

This may be a stupid question, but did the bracket come from DC?

yup came from dc. weld will never be as strong as a fully new bracket. that'll be the first spot to snap if it wants to go again if welded.

Not necessarily. If it is a crappy weld to begin with, then that is the point where it will snap again. Take it to a weld shop and have them weld it back together. If welded properly the joint itself will be stronger than it was before. You wont be able to get a hold of them this week most likely. They are at SEMA doing their thing this week. So in the mean time I would take it out, take it to a weld shop and have them weld it back together 'till you can get a hold of DC Power.

What good is getting another piece of cast bracket going to do when it snaps again, do it right and get one made from mild steel and be done with it knowing it will never snap again. My point is that if it does it once there is a good chance that it will happen again.
