Need Help With My Sub Box...

Recommended Posts

Went up and talked to them today...they said no way are they giving me any kind of a refund for the box.. So I guess I'll just have to cancel the payment.

And I talked ot them about the sub sounding like shit, and they said ''bummer.''

Is the Hifonics BXi-1206D strong enough to push a 12'' Type-X? It's wired correctly now at a 2-ohm load, so it should be getting 900rms. Maybe the sub is just underpowered????

from wut i see that sub should have be four ohm dvc (if im wrong tell me) which is great cause u can run everything in paralell for a one ohm load which is wut the BXI-1206D needs to put out 1200 watts rms. and ur sub calls for 1000wrms. the only way i can think how u got a 2-ohm load is if it has 2ohm dvc in which case it would be getting about 900 wrms

now wut is ur definition of "sounding like shit"? because many things can be the problem.

my guess is since ur box is too large the sub may "flutter" do to lack of back pressure which can make it sound kinda bad

and as far as i know underpowering a sub wont make the SQ change it will just be quieter than it should be

so give me a little more info and i can help

When I say ''it sounds like shit'' I mean that it has very little sound/bass output (quiet). It sounds almost just like my buddy's single Type-R in a sealed box, as far as loudness goes.

I did a little testing tonight on the Hifonics amp by hooking in up to my friend's two 12 inch Type-R's, and the amp does not push the subs nearly as hard as his Kenwood KAC-9103D does. The Type-R's are putting a 1-ohm load on the amp by the way. The Kenwood is 1800 watts peak, 900rms @ 2-ohms. It does not say what the Kenwood puts out at 1-ohm, all the owners manual says is that it is 1-ohm stable. So I am thinking the amp is bad? Or maybe it does not put out nearly what it says it does...

Somebody Help!!!

reversing the polarity can damage your subs, and if they didnt warm it up, or it was clipping when they were playing it, that will damage it too.

How so?

If there's only one sub, swapping polarity would only have it out of phase 180degrees...and only out of phase w/ the midbass from the mids, since there's only one woofer in this system...Right?

If it's out of Phase and you have a PHASE selector on the amp try it in the 180 degree position.

The reversed polarity is gonna effect the output alone change that asap! If you have already and its playing fine dont worry too much about it. yes a sub works better for daily driving in the reccommended airspace ansd whatnot, thats why manufacturers include them with the subs.

Edit: If you are not happy with the enclosure take it back and get your money back you requested one thing and they gave you another.

Ditto from above^^?

Please take no offense-I'm seriously wondering if IM missing something that would damage a sub in that scenario...?

Only prob I have/can guess with the stereo shop guys not wiring it "correctly"...if it is DVC 4 ohm, maybe they have it wired to 8ohm and the amp is pushing minimal power.

~2cents.

yea i will agree with that. they may have told u its wired to 2 ohm but that doesnt mean that it is. not saying that u haven't checked it but have you? cause i high ohm load like 8 would make the sub extremely quiet

LSN as far as i know most subs have a higher excursion moving away from the magnet than they do moving towards it. and reversing polarity would make the down cycle move farther which means it could hit the bottom and bend itself and cause mechanical noise and crap like that

however this is just a guess there is no research behind it, just thinkin out loud

Now wait a minute I never said anything about it being damaged, BUT........yes having a sub in an enclosure wired out of phase can damage a sub(essentially using the vehicle as an enclosure and the box as the vehicle *unless inverted), usually it just sounds like shit...

normally wut i hear is hifonics amps are good, some people may say otherwise

but ur sub says it needs 1000wrms but its max is 3000w so id say it wouldnt really be loud until about 1500w

if u have or know someone with an amp similar to urs test ur sub on it and test their subs on urs and see wut happens
