Helping a friend get his system started

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone!

I have never installed a system with amps and subs before, but me and a friend would like to learn. I'm not completely clueless; we are both in an Electronics class and have learned about resistances, current, voltage, and series and parallel circuits...so we're not up the creek without a paddle if you know what I mean. I am going to slowly start a system in my car after we finish his but this is a great learning experience for me.

Friend wants to get a system going in his 1993 Toyota Corolla. I know it's a pretty old car, but we are trying to figure out what he can do with it. He ordered the Radio & 4 speakers for the front and rear doors.

He got this HU package: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_700MP34220/Kenwood-KDC-MP342U-Package.html

and these speakers for his front doors.

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_20607DS400/Kicker-07DS400.html

I've installed a couple head-units and speakers in doors before; so I know pretty much how to do this stuff.

He would like to know how many subs will be possible for him to fit into his trunk. He is hoping for 2 15s but I don't think his stock alternator will be able to handle that much power. I informed him that adding a battery may be necessary. He told me that he would like to know what the max he could do without upgrading his electrical, for now.

I showed him this amp, ( http://www.amazon.com/Power-Acoustik-CPT1-2000-Selectable-Terminals/dp/B003CYL7KI/ref=sr_1_13?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1289947451&sr=1-13 ) and he said he wants that one. Is that a good choice? Will his stock electrical be able to handle that? Maybe a cap?

Sorry for such a long post, but anyone who helps I appreciate it very much.

If your friend wants to fit 2 15's, we need his max dimensions of his trunk.

Dont buy that amp. Piece of crap for the price. Look at an Audiopipe 1500.

you should be fine running that kind of power on a stock alt and batt.

and if he were to choose 2 15's, look at T3 T600s. Very good woofers.

oh and btw, dont use caps. waste of money, buy a battery.

under construction

I hate People with crappy primered cars rolling on hubcaps that are louder then me.

Okay, is this a good price for the Audiopipe 1500?

i have a 94 corolla actually. i dont think the trunk is big enough for 2 15's. my box is 3cuft (about 4 or 4.5 before displacements) and its about 7" from the back of the trunk and it was SUPER hard to get in the trunk.

Oh, cool! :) I'll let him know about you and that you've got a 94 and don't think 2 15s would fit. How does yours sound? Do you have any videos of flex from it?

Cool! I'll show him those videos tomorrow. How much did those Level 3s run you? I'm looking to getting maybe 1 15 or 2 12s in my 01 Impala, with that audiopipe.

You will have to email or pm one of the people from DC audio as they don't like people sharing the price of their equipment.

May I suggest asking Rusty: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/user/12-wca-rusty/

Alright, I'll get to doing that.

Anyone have any other suggestions on what subs to use on an Audiopipe AP15001D?

Well, I e-mailed him but didn't hear anything back yet. I may try calling my local DC retailer and find out some prices that way.
