LSN2meBoom916
So along GP2K2's suggestion, instead of makin a new "member build" log, i'm throwing this over here in the fabrication section. I actually have been riding w/ no rear seatbacks for a long ass time-I started this and just got side tracked with the truck/maxima/etc. I decided since my current amp rack sits on a 4" ledge which is part of my box, and I can't take the box out with out taking the rack out and vice versa, I should move the amps. The idea is to mount my 2 amps (Phoenix Gold T1200.1 and T600.4) FLUSH in the backsides of the seat backs/upper portion of the seat. This way: 1: They will still be invisible with the seats up. 2: They will recieve the exact same "cooling" treatment as before in the rack since I can drop the seats to air them out and they will actually be even closer to the a/c up front 3: I will be able to take the box out and still have power in the car so I can build whatever crazy-sillyness I want in the trunk and thus DEMO the 30+ subs I have layin around and maybe get some sold locally. 4:It means I will have an empty trunk to build in any time I am bored (BONER!) Here's how it started. Popped off those lil carpet plugs Peeled back the carpet Started figurin out where the amps would sit. Chopped out that section of the sheet metal Marked and chopped out the necessary foam so the amps would fit/sit flush COOGLE SAID:"bro thats how we got where we are... buy making messes ...... i still learn all the time you just gota be willing to ruck up some shit" "In order to attain the impossible, one must attempt the absurd." ~ Miguel de Unamuno"One machine can do the work of fifty ordinary men, but no machine can do the work of one extraordinary man" -Elbert Hubbard"A proud man can learn humility...but he will be proud of that too" ~I forget who.I'm far from perfect and I know it better than anyone, but I hope to be good at what I do, when I do it...Installs I've done:My Integra: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3161The Lexus : http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=1535Law's Maxima: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=5568&hl=Jeff's 2500HD: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=5382&hl=Acura RSX-S: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=3142Z-32 300zx: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=34602004 Civic 4dr: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...?showtopic=8190Trunk/Corner Box: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=16036&hl=1969 Chevy C-10: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...c=20319&hl=Seat-Back AMP-RACK How-to: http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...ic=9428&hl=Bunch of subs still for salehttp://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/board/ind...l=lsn2meboom916"It's game night...we're playin......sex."~Quagmire"When disneyland started it was powered completely by orphan children running on treadmills to generate e-lectrissty…and today, them children are New York Yankees". ~Dale Gribble"Fill it with ice...then pour it up to the top of the ice...& Shut da Fu** up!" ~Urs truly. LSN2meBoom916
I should mention- after I unhooked the vinyl wrap/seat coverings, I cut the metal section out, then re-attached the vinyl via the stock ring fasteners AND "rolled it" under so the sharp edges were hidden and the rubber mallet helped in this. That process "rolled" the vinyl down into the opening too, so it looked cleaner. Sittin flush. Checkin level w/ a board. LSN2meBoom916
"Carnage" So with THAT METAL^^^^ missing out the seats, I figg'd the structural integrity would be slightly degraded and even more so once I had chopped out the foam that pressed against it... So on to the "low profile reinforcements" inside the seat backs. 1/4" all-thread. Cut to leangth to form a latice-work that will work like bedsprings to support the person leaning against it. LSN2meBoom916
nice job man. can't wait to see how you hold the all thread in place. Well, it goes into the foam of the seat, beyond the opening about 2" on each end, and the amp "mounts" go over top of that, so i really doubt they're goin anywhere. On with the metal frames. Some 18ga steel "L" stock. =Frame. Some green foam zip tied in over the all-thread betewwn the steel frame so it won't rattle. The steel frame is actually a bit larger than the opening so it is pressed against the sheet metal of the seat just outside the opening and it would take way more force than would/could ever be put on it. Nice and solid this way.
