Rings, valves, and on the odd occasion, its been found to help isolate a slowly leaking head gasket on a few motors in correlation with having a pressure gauge hooked into the cooling system. AA98hoe Posted January 3, 2011 Author Report Share Posted January 3, 2011 today my cylinder completely went out changed the plug to a hotter one same thing. pulled the wire off same miss. i want to go to a show my teams hosting but its 200 miles away. should i chance it when its at 2000 rpm it seems ok on the freeway. whats the worst that can happen could it break a piston? crispy_chick3n Posted January 3, 2011 Report Share Posted January 3, 2011 nah it woun break the piston, what i would do is unhook the fuel injector for that cylinder. that way you arnt pumping fuel into a dead cylinder, all that would do is build up crank case pressure, which can be verry bad. if unhooking the injector has no effect on the idle of the truck (which it shoudent, cause the cylinder has no compression) leave it unhooked and get the wires away from the hot. dont pull the plug or injector out, there still should be minimal pressure, which is helping to keep the piston at the right angle, and we dont want to lose that pressure. my guess is that your compression rings on that cylinder are gone and done.
